How do you travel to the interviews?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yep. Interviewed with a bloodstain on my collar.

Like you, I don't like dressing up. But I had to for interviews. During my graduation ceremony, people commented that they had never seen me dress up in my entire 4 years of college. One professor even said, "I didn't even know you HAD a suit!"

What a hilarious story ! :luck:

back to the original question. i had three interviews. i live in texas, and one of them was in san antonio, so we took a car trip w/ my family. the other two were horrible! my first one was in arkansas okay, so me and my dad took a plane there the day before the interview. once i finished my interview the following morning (friday), it started snowing. so we both went to the airport to find that our flight's been canceled. so our flight got moved to sunday morning. so we spent one day + night there, couldn't find anything to do cuz it was impossible to drive on the roads. there was only one viet restaurant in the place, so we went there practically every five hours- breakfast + lunch + dinner + then breakfast on sunday before we flew! and the residents said that they rarely got snow!! did ya know that we both came home broke? i was out of money, while my dad only had one buck left in his wallet!

so on my second interview happened to be in cali! of course, me and my dad flew there. but we a connecting flight for the outbound to denver. yes, my connecting flight got delayed and i was put on standby for three painstaking hours!! cuz we might or might not get available seats... that was the most agony i've gotten into! three hours wondering if you're going to make it or not, cuz my interview was in the morning at 9, and it was eight pm in denver. then our luck turned around and we got the flight, and we arrived in cali. at midnight. we had to rent a car and find the darn school. that ended at 1:00 after midnight. but we didn't eat dinner! no places were opened and we happened to see denny's about 45 minutes later. we reached the hotel about 2:20, ate, and then slept at 3 ish (still morning). got up at 7 am to do the interview. i had the darkest rings under my eyes! i wasnt used to the time difference either.

now im scared of flying cuz i get delayed every time. anyone had this situation?!

I never had a situation like that with flying before because I always take nonstop flights.

The only problems I ever have are that I keep getting stopped by security and I'm sick of it. I see a bunch of white people just walking by and then there I am the only Desi guy with a beard, and I get stopped. ****ing ridiculous.

I made three trips for my interview, all out of state. First one was in Charlotte, second was in Atlanta and the third was at Chicago. I love traveling so I stayed for the weekend after my friday interviews. I wanted to make it worthwhile just in case I don't get accepted...but I ended up spend $3,000 total.

Ha! I always get stopped for having a water bottle in my bag. and my dad got searched cuz he didn't put that zip-lock bag outside.. and the security level went to orange.. i'm amazed how business ppl do this on a daily basis, you know?

so how do you guys pay for all these interviews?

I spent thousands of dollars flying out to two of the interviews, staying at hotels, taking a cab to/from the hotel, taking a cab to/from the school, driving 1,200 miles for the other 3, spending excess money at airports or fast food joints, and getting my shirts dry cleaned, buying a nice pair of shoes, and getting a folding suit-carrying bag to make this all happen

I was working/taking classes full time, and I had a little bit of trouble affording everything

I'm going to have my 60 year old sugar daddy to pay for everything. God, it's good to be hot.

JK, I got a summer job on top of volunteering and summer school to pay for pharmcas, application fees and possibly for interviews.

I dunno, all these hassles are not worth it for security. I prefer liberty over security any day.

"Those who are willing to trade their liberty for some security, deserve none at all."

I hate going through all these cancellations and missed flights, ya know??? Ppl on standby got announced to go onboard, and they were saying stuff like "hallelejuh".. and it amazes me so much on ppl can get so grumpy and out of controlled.. cuz there was this guy, wife and a baby on standby.. that family and our family both missed our connecting flights to sacramento, ca cuz our 1st flight from DFW got delayed 40 minutes. He ordered to talk to the manager, and he practically screamed and threatened the manager. The manager was going to have the guy arrested if he wouldn't stop. Then they worked things out and shook hands.. and I'm sitting there waiting also doing my lab stuff on my laptop.. and I see ppl running frantically everywhere. Wow! you know? And then all those business ppl always going.. I'm glad to have the chance to eat dinner everyday with my family even though we are sooo busy.. and then there's ppl polishing ppl's shoes, and i cringe when i see that. There's so much trouble to have employees scan their cards. and the whole security thing, taking off your shoes, have your laptop out, put things in the zip-lock, no fluids onboard.. then how prices are getting ridiculously high and there's stupid fees to everything..like rental cars- on way service, air fares.. and i see this, and i think to myself i'm only a student doing an interview across five states, and wow life is difficult. I hope that in twenty yrs or later, i can still afford to eat whatever i like to eat. and travel. just a thought.👍
