I am in the following situation:

School A (accepted): This school is in Chicago and I am located on the east coast. I would like to stay close to friends and family.
School B (waitlisted): This school is located in NYC (much closer to home), so if I get off the waitlist, I would choose to attend School B over School A.
School C (waitlisted): closer to home than School A and objectively better reputation than both A and B

Lets say on April 30th, I make a decision to attend School A.

If I get an acceptance offer from School B in early May, I am aware that AAMC allows you to switch schools.

However, what if I get an offer from School C in June? Can I switch from School B to School C? Is there a limit on how many times you can switch schools after April 30th?

Sorry if this is a stupid question. Thanks!

You can switch as many times as you like until you attend A, B, or C's orientation.

Edit: It goes without saying that after you turn down A's offer, you can't pick it back up again.

Do we forfeit deposits if we switch after apr 30?

Actually, according to the AAMC Traffic Rules, MD deposits are refundable only until April 30.

"7. Each school's pre-enrollment deposit should not exceed $100 and (except for EDP applicants,) be refundable until April 30. If the applicant enrolls at the school, the school should credit the deposit toward tuition. Schools should not require additional deposits or matriculation fees prior to matriculation."

The AAMC Application and Acceptance Protocols - Admission Officers

EDIT: I was trying to get the stuff from the website in quote tags to look nice but I kind of had some formatting struggles so I went with traditional quotation marks.

Until you are in orientation, you are not matriculated
Right. But doesn't that quote mean that if you were to switch schools after April 30, that the school you switched from would no longer be obligated to refund you your deposit? Unless I am completely misunderstanding you, that would not generally be considered an additional deposit or matriculation fee.

So is the consensus that sending an update/LOI email after May 1st is a good idea for getting off the waitlist? I know that one school I interviewed at highly encouraged this, but I dont recall a different school mentioning anything about it.

My understanding is that if you have multiple acceptances, you can get all of those deposits back until April 30th, at which point you only get to hold one acceptance. Then if after April 30th you get pulled off a waitlist and decide to switch from the one acceptance you chose in April to the new acceptance, then you lose the deposit for the first school.

Is this Rule any different for USUHS. Can we switch schools or rescind USHUS acceptance after signing the contract and Oath, but before going to COT training ? Or do we still get to turn down this acceptance until the matriculation date.

Here is what AAMC Traffic Rule states,
"No school make an offer of acceptance, either verbal or written, to any individual who has officially matriculated/enrolled in, or begun an orientation program immediately prior to enrollment at, an LCME accredited medical school. Medical programs should enter a matriculation action for students in AMCAS immediately upon the start of enrollment or the orientation immediately preceding enrollment"

So, it seems like beginning the COT program for USUHS would be the deciding date, after which you cannot take any other acceptance, like moving from WaitList to Accepted ?

Would love to hear all feedback. Thanks !

If you’re going to COT, you’ve signed the paperwork to commit.

Thanks for the feedback. This might sound silly, but because it has a significant impact... When you say "going to COT" do you mean, actually turning up on day 1 at COT ? Thanks.

I am starting to plan for the Second Look and the COT, but these contract terms/obligations are not in my league ! Hence, these questions....

I’m in the Navy, so I’m not sure how it works for you guys, but we sign our paperwork before we go and we commission before day 1. I’m pretty sure AF is the same.
