I am referring to the period you submit your AMCAS application.

first day is june 1? so june 23 is considered late?

No, late would be ~ August/September. It takes a while for AMCAS to process your application, so even if you submit in late June (which IMO is still early), your app may not be transmitted to schools until mid- to late-July. Keep this delay in mind, and submit as early as possible. Start writing your personal statement right after you take the MCAT in April, because that's what tends to be put off until the last minute.

ah! speedy response ATPase!
Thank you!

The earlier the better. June 1st 12:00 am! Being the first one in line has a lot of advantages.

Speaking from experience, have your transcripts sent to AMCAS as soon as they will take them (they accept them starting in May, I think). Also, have your application ready on June 1. If you can access secondaries online, start those also. Timing is everything and the sooner, the better.

And disadvantages. Glitches always hit the first wave of people. My premed advisor told us to wait a week or two before submitting to let all the bugs in AMCAS get resolved. I did this and it didnt hurt me at all, I heard about interviews etc the same time other SDNers who had submitted on June 1st did.

Interesting, so i guess the whole month of june is still considered 'early.'

One thing that I would have definitely done differently:
Obtained the secondaries before even submitting the primary; took my time to fill them out thoroughly and sent them in when required. I rushed through them and sacrificed a bit of content for timing--bad decision i think.

although they start processing applications right away, they don't transmit them to schools until sometime in july. i got mine in maybe around june 15, and it was verrified a couple weeks later. it was transmitted on the first day, right along with all the applications that were submitted june 1. It is true that transcripts are a big cause of hold-ups. send them in early!

Yeah my friend sent hers in very early, and was part of the great "your credit card didn't go through" massacre. Not a big deal, but she had to get on the phone to AMCAS and get it fixed. It really didn't hold her up at all from being verified, but it must have been a tad bit annoying. It all works out though, if you submit in June / July. You get verified pretty quickly.

I submitted around June 15 as well. I think as long as you submit before the end of June, you will be in the first wave of applications sent to med schools in July.

The most important thing is to make sure your transcripts are in on time.

Hah! nice responses
Thanks!

Also I am trying to get an answer from the AAMC people about transcript exception request. I fear tt it will delay my application next year.
It seems that they are not responding to any of my e-mails. 😡
