How important is it to do rotations at a hospital with your residency of choice?

i'm pretty much stuck between two places to do my rotations. one of them is in a location where I think I'd be more happy, but it doesn't have a residency for the field I am hoping to pursue. however, the other hospital DOES have the residency I am hoping to pursue but i don't really like the area, and don't think it'll be as entertaining.

so i guess my question is: does doing rotations @ a hospital with your residency of choice make that much of a difference?

Why would you do an away rotation in a specialty you weren't interested in? I thought the whole point was to get connections (and an in-house rec letter) and basically do a month-long interview.

sorry for not being clear. these are not away rotations but rather core rotations (for 3rd year). i am given the opportunity to go to either of two regions, as i described earlier.

As long as you have a high step 1 score and do well in clinicals, it doesn't much matter.

No one cares where you do your cores, the ones unrelated to your specialty of choice. Just do well in them wherever you'll be most comfortable. If your specialty is one of the cores (ie. gen surgery, ob/gyn, etc.) then you should try to do that one core at the hospital where you'd rather do residency.
