How important is NETWORKING in dentistry? especially for specialist

How important is NETWORKING in dentistry? ( especially for specialist practicing in califonia...) I might go to a dental school in other states, but I would like to come back to California to practice. Will it be a disadvantage to go to a non-california dental school because I probably won't know that many local dentists, and less networking??
