I did horrible during my sophomore and freshman year which is weighing down my gpa drastically, especially my science GPA~(3.17). My upward trend is amazing however in my higher level sciences, (3.8, 3.85, 4.0, 4.0 the past few semesters). My DAT score is a 25 TS and 24 AA. Do I have a shot for dental schools such as NYU, Tufts, Temple?

Exact same situation. I had a 3.85 GPA my last year of school after a less than stellar first two years, and a 25 AA/ 24 TS. Six acceptances today out of eight interviews. You're gonna be just fine provided you interview well.
That's absolutely fantastic!! I really want dental schools to see how much of an improvement I have made as a student.

With those stats, you have a good shot at getting interviews from state schools too.
Do you really think so? That would be ideal because lord knows, I am terrified of the all the debt I'll be thanks to student loans, and going to a state school definitely lessens the amount.

Edit: Nevermind spoke to soon. Try for instate schools you have a great chance!

Haha so schools like Stony would be out of reach? I'm hoping to apply everywhere I can in NY... NYU, Columbia, Stony, Buffalo, Touro ( 🤣) and god willing, I'll be accepted to a few of them.

Same DAT. Same GPAs. Same amazing upwards trends. I'm getting a couple interviews. So will you! Just interviewed at NYU today. If you can express your emotions, you will get an acceptance.

EDIT: congrats on the hard work on the upwards trend/DAT!

Sweet!!! That's amazing! Congrats on your interviews and acceptances! Hopefully I will see you next year in one of these schools when I apply (and hopefully get accepted!)

Apply early! Hit the submit button before the end of June preferably.

Hey! you got it! awesome work!! my gpa is like ures... 3.1ish (but 4.0 last 2 years), 22aa dat, lots of ec's/shadowing... 4/4 acceptances (one of them NYU) so you got it. Just kill that essay and interview. (oh and im international so a bit harder)

This makes me so happy to hear!! I've definitely got to increase my volunteering hours but I'm hoping that by the time that I apply, I'll have a sufficient amount. That along with my A's and A+'s in the remainder of my undergrad career will hopefully be enough

You'll be just fine. Continue to do well until you apply. If some of those higher GPA's were with difficult, heavy courseloads (max credits, 4 upper-level bio courses) then that'll really prove to dental schools that you have what it takes. It may be hell during the semester, but I'm sure it would pay dividends during the cycle.

Upward trend is VERY important. Without my upward trend I would have never gotten any acceptances...
I had 3 B's and a C- freshman year, I withdrew from 2 classes the next semester, and took physics at a community college (didn't even get an A...).
Then after my first year, I had a 3.5, 3.8, 4.0, 4.0, each semester and will be expecting a 4.0 this semester and maybe a 3.8 next semester.

I wish B's and C's were my problem, unfortunately I have a couple of F's D's and W's...

I definitely have been taking hard sciences together but wow 4 upper level bio classes in 1 sem?!? You crazy!!! 😛

Also, how forgiving is Columbia Dental School when it comes to a low GPA with an upward trend and a high DAT?

Very. I was told in my interview that they let the earlier sins slide because my later semesters were great and my DAT made up for it.
Thats wonderful! If you don't mind, can you share your stats?
