Plaque is a biofilm which is caused by bacteria trying to attach to the smooth surface of the tooth. Plaque built up gives rise to a number of periodontal diseases and is also associated with systemic diseases like the heart disease, diabetes, dementia, rheumatoid arthritis etc.

We all know that the first line of defense when it comes to oral health is maintaining a good oral hygiene. Most of us follow the golden rule of brushing our teeth, flossing and brushing our tongue every day as a part of our daily routine which is essential to remove plaque. While toothbrushes effectively remove plaque on the surface, flossing is for interproximal plaque removal. But do you know that there is also an alternative to flossing? These are called as Interdental brushes.

Inderdental brushes are an effective alternative to dental floss. They are designed to clean between the teeth, below the gum line and around bridges or braces (dental appliances). It is comparatively easier to use as the person using it can get a better grip and it’s less time consuming compared to flossing.
