It was mostly OP's lack of care for what other people are saying. Most forum members have good hearts. We don't like to see someone falter if we can help it. So people truly tried their best to influence OP towards a good path, which in the end ended up working. That said, it took 20 pages...

In OP's defense, she goes to a deflating school and it was just after finals. I can understand her pain, haha. Maybe not twenty pages worth, but I can imagine why one would be upset.

Quarter system, I suppose? Yeah, going to an intimidating school could be discouraging. She seems really optimistic, and that is a good trait, to a point.

I was ready to give up after page 5. This is pretty much how I felt about her application at that point.

I just can't feel for a person that thinks 99.9% of other schools are basically so beneath her level of intelligence as to be worth laughing at. I don't care how hard her tests are, you don't just get a bad grade and then claim that every other college out there that is ranked lower than your own barely teaches above the high school level. The level of arrogance, it's astounding.

Well obviously because the sword can slice right through all that fancy armor in a single blow. Drop in the middle of three guys with a rifle? You'll be shot full of holes before you take one down. Drop in with a laser sword? You just got three kills son.

I'm not denying this, just saying I can understand why one would be upset, sorry for the lack of clarification on that! I don't necessarily feel /bad/, but I do like to see all users of this forum succeed. If that takes a bit more posting than usual, so be it 🙂

Hey OP, my Engineering curriculum was harder than your easy pre-med stuff.

Guess what, I did all my pre-med at a CC and got into MD. You are hilarious. Keep up the pity party, I'm loving it.

Been on sdn for a while and first time posting...

OP, I went to UChicago and had a 3.3. in my second year. One day, I decided to stop all the complaining and decided to work my butt off. Never got a grade below A- after that. Ended up with a 3.9-4.0 for the rest of my college career. Applied with a 3.7 and interviewed at 7 schools this cycle, including Pritzker.

Also, I was working 15hours/week, TAing, and president of multiple student organizations while doing well in my upper level science classes. Just stop all the negativity and challenge yourself to be the top 10% who get As. I know it is a demoralizing environment but it is not as impossible as people around you say it is! Trust me, people who are not geniuses can still do well at UChicago if you are willing to put in the work. It is not fair when compared to other "easier" schools you are referring to, but you're learning from people who are passionate about what they are doing! It was an amazing experience for me and I would hate to see you spend four years wishing you were somewhere else.

Edit: to prove that I am no genius, I barely hit 2000 on the SAT. It made me feel inferior to my classmates in my first two years. But hey if I made it, I am sure you can too! Also, white boards in crerar are the best for ochem/biochem

Some people just need less work to do well, regardless of difficulty. That's life. I went to a grade-deflating school and did much less work than my classmates for better grades. I didn't brag about it on facebook, but some people just have that ability.

Never said people from CCs wouldn't make it, I said they had just the same possibility of making it with an easier time.

Life isn't fair. We make do with what we are dealt with. I have ADD and really wasn't able to learn or do well in courses and was constantly discouraged before college and I worked the hardest I can to be able to do well in college and succeeded. Life is all about making the most of non-ideal circumstances and giving it your all.

You can find injustices, things that aren't fair and demotivators anywhere. You just have to keep at it.
 
I just wanted to say that I read the first 10 posts in this thread and it was glorious. I don't need to see the other 20 pages. This is absolutely stunning work here folks and I truly appreciate it.

And you think I don't have ADD?
I had to work until 3AM in high school even though the material was like 10x easier.
However ADD + Uchicago = 3.2
ADD + other schools I could have gone to = 4.0
 
You are in a difficult situation. You can compare it to other people's and complain about it or you can see it as an opportunity to prove yourself. That is not about what you can or cannot do, but a choice you make.

I have no doubt that you are smart. Probably considered smart to everyone you know before starting college. Think about what you're gonna say to people after your graduation. Are you really willing to swallow your pride and tell people that UChicago was too tough for you? That you are just not smart enough for the school? It might be true, but I know I was not willing to say that without putting in my best effort.

When you stop looking at your friends' tests from other schools, you will see that UChicago is not unreasonably hard.

Did you attend Harvard High School? You obviously have terrible study habits if you're studying until 3AM. How can you still continue to blame everything else around you?
 
I know I had terrible skills and they haven't improved much. But I did take community college classes in high school and I should have known better and went there/to a full ride school. Oh well, I'll work harder next quarter.
