Hey guys,

After long hours of reading and researching throughout this forum, (I LOVE this forum and the people btw, thank you guys) i have devised a plan/timeline for myself.

I was wondering if you guys can give me any advice/suggestions.

I will be finishing up General Biology and General Chemistry this summer 2012.

Taking Orgo 1 and Physics 1 in the fall of 2012.

Taking Orgo 2 and Physics 2 in the spring of 2013.

WIll start studying for the MCATs around January of 2013, and take it around May/June of 2013.

Then if all goes well, start my applications early and submit early June of 2013.

And while I'm doing this, I will be looking for any volunteer/shadow opportunities.

How does this plan look to you guys? any input would be appreciated!

Also, I'm just worried about the DO schools requirements on Biology w/ Labs. Only because the Biology courses at UCI do NOT offer any labs with the general biology classes. What is up with that!? How should I go about taking the labs??

But anyways, feel free to respond with any comments!

Thanks~

You might be in a bit of a bind there. I don't think that there's going to be a lot of leeway on having the labs and I don't know of school which allow you to take just the lab. At my school, there's only one lab slot for every lecture slot and when you go online to register you have to punch in the course number for both the lecture section and lab section at the same time or you get an error message. So when all is said and done you can't take a lab without taking the lecture.

Thanks guys!

So I read up on the unecom online lab/lecture, and see that they offer 5 biology courses.

I already have general biology so no need to take those, but i was wondering. They offer a course in microbiology, and I'm not too sure if the classes I took at UCI would be considered microbiology.

I took DNA to Organisms / Organisms to Ecosystems / Genetics.

I'm pretty sure the DNA to Organisms pertain to microbiology right? correct me if I'm wrong please.

And so I'm left with physiology or anatomy to take from the unecom online classes. Any suggestions?

I dont mind either one, but I have never taken an online science course and would like any sort of input on the pros/cons for taking either physio or anatomy online.

Thanks!

You already asked this question in your other thread, but I will just say that online anatomy should be a walk in the park.

yeah I am going with anatomy on this one.

But regardless, any thoughts on my timeline???

6 months to prepare for the MCAT within a year of completing most of the pre-reqs seems a bit overkill. If you think you need that much time, then so be it. I would do a search for MCAT study plans on SDN, because many of them should prepare you to take it in less than 6 months.

It really depends on the instructor though like at my school. If the instructor signs a form that waves the requirement to also take the lecture portion, you CAN take the lab portion by itself. You should talk to the professors at your school. Even if one says they can't allow it ask another one til one says yes. I don't think it should be that big of a deal and it beats taking a lecture class all over again.
