Can anyone tell me about the IM program at Brown? How competitive is it to get in and how does it compare to other programs in New England?
Thanks.

I'd also like to know more about Brown's program. I know that according to FREIDA they interviewed about 600 people last year, which is by far the largest number I've heard of so far, so I'd surmise that it must be rather competitive. All in all, I've only heard good things about it.

For those who have interviewed there, was it a laid back conversational interview or more of a typical question and answer type with prototypical interview questions?
Thanks

I was completely surprised by Brown... by far my #1 place in East Coast... and I interviewed at several top tier programs out there...

The comaraderie among residents and faculty was genuine. My interviewer had devoured every word on my application and talked to me for almost an hour selling how Brown and I would be a good match for each other. He almost seemed to know more about me and my interests than I did!!

I have to rank Brown over all the Boston places I interviewed (much to my surprise!!!). I interviewed at BU and Tufts.

Hmmm... Maybe I was there on a bad day. I really wanted to love Brown, but I have to say that I wasn't overwhelmed with a positive feeling about the place. My impression was that faculty were "hands off" to the point that it is difficult to communicate with the attendings. The residents were among the most tired looking that I've seen. Rhode Island Hospital was dreary. Their board pass rate is very disappointing (only in the mid-80% range, I believe).

Please, somebody, say that I'm wrong. 😕

wow, two extreme experiences... i must say that Brown Hospital is physically old and rather ugly (but that seems to be common in the NE). I was told that the Board passing rate was in 90s... although, I don't tend to pay much heed to that... My philosophy is that no institution is going to significantly impact my performance on the boards... that I gotta rely on myself.

I wonder what Fanconi thought about the Boston programs?

I turned down all of my Boston interviews, because I decided that I didn't want to live there. Not that I think it's a bad town. It's just that I'd have to live in a cardboard box there. 😉
