how many got in with 2.8 GPA and DAT 19

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You have a great DAT score...I wouldnt personally go through that whole exam again juss to try and score 1 or 2 points better! If you have great/outstanding EC like many leadership postions, or done something that many havent accomplished, dont worry about it too much. GPA IS NOT EVERYTHING! But if you dont have much EC I still wont give up hope. If your religous, pray and have faith! 🙂

i was comparing the GPA w/ and the GPA w/o. No one knows which one they use. Yet Klutzy reported the higher 4.09 and 4.04 which is his GPA with. His GPA without is 4.0. Hence, inflation by .09 and .04. K w/e it differs by .05. But we were talking about grade inflation, and this is an example of it, regardless of how insignificant it is. It shows us one case where one student thought he wasn't grade inflating, but in my opinion is. Another student may argue taht his summer school courses don't count and thus his GPA should be 0.2 higher. And that student probably doesn't think hes inflating his grade either.

I'm not accusing people or saying it doesn't happen - just making a point.

Whadya mean I have a 4.0 My science is 4.09 and my cumulative is 4.04. Im not sure what your talking about GPA with or without, but whatever it is are you saying that I should be changing what I report cuz idc ill change it im just not sure what your talking about.

your point is valid. people do inflate their GPA. But inflating from a 3.5 to a 4.0 is inflating or misrepresenting themselves. I personally do not think someone is misrepresenting themselves by being above 4.0 and putting 4.05. It does't matter. 4.0, or greater than 4.0 is all the same.

So after viewing your predents profile with 3.6x in overal GPA and 3.9x in science GPA, I see why you think this way. Clearly you are hoping that adcoms weigh your science GPA more than your overall. Your post seethes with bias. If this is what makes you feel good about your marks, then so be it. But realize that logic to you may not make sense to the next. And your logic doesn't produce an immediate universal truth.

And don't call us nerds: uou have a 3.9x.

So after you viewing my predents profile you see why "I" think this way. I am "HOPING" adcoms weigh my science GPA more than overall. Please. I received interviews at every school I applied, and I happen to know a thing or two about the admissions process. You on the other hand "after view your predents file", have not interviewed anywhere. I would like to see you change your mind when you realize science gpa is the GPA considered in most cases. I am not trying to make myself feel good about my marks, I have a 3.6, wooptie doo. I still interviewed at every school, some of which you have applied and still have not received interviews. It is not my logic, either. A science gpa, or even a BCP gpa is more representative of a students ability to handle science courses rather than a CGPA. Like I said, juts wait, you'll know what I am talking about. If having a 4.0 at a no-name school from Canada makes you sleep at night better, good for you. "Nerd"

^^LOL. Um do you know where PBL as we know it today came from? That's right his "no-name" Canadian school.
Here's a paper from a "name school" from America (pillar of education that you are) so you don't think I'm another "no name" Canadian just trying to "sleep better at night"

The arrogance in these forums is astounding, did you used to be premed? No? Are you sure?

misstoothfairy = most beloved member of SDN?

🙄 :meanie:

I LOVE Misstoothfairy!! She always gives me big bucks for my tooth😀

I really hope I go to school with Miss Toothfairy. That would be my dream come true. In all honesty, it's a blog and people are "blunt" to make it interesting. Someone has to do it..she does. Sometimes she has decent points. Unfortunately they are laced with incredibly rude remarks..like referring to SDN people as nerds and more appropriately ******s.

Hi I was just wondering how many people have got into dental school with a 2.80 GPA in Science and a 19 average in DAT? The reason I am asking is that I am in the same boat and wanted to know what percentage got in, for me to have a chance.

I know that there are other things that are consider too.

help 😎

If you want to be a dentist more than anything in the world, you should consider completing a masters program, do some amazing EC's, and/or do way better on the DAT. That's assuming you are NOT a minority. If you are a minority, just apply to Meharry and Howard..you have a shot. I'm SURE that people get in every cycle with your stats, but they probably know the dean of admissions or have some insane connection (money).

IF I WERE YOU, I would change careers. I would personally go for Physicians assisstant or possibly pharmacy school. I know they require high stats as well...........but they aren't as tough as getting in dental school. You can do anything that you want to. I really believe that if you really want to be a dentist, you can. But thus far, you haven't shown it and you have a long road ahead of you of proving adcoms and people like myself wrong!

dont listen to anyone, you wont know your chances unless you apply, make sure every other part of your application is strong.

A classmate of mine got in with similar stats to UOP, dude didnt even have a degree and was in undergrad for five years. It happens...

I'm sorry if I offended anybody, thats not my initial intention. Perhaps you can consider it a retaliation to Contach? I don't want to be fake, especially on a forum. When you meet me in real life, we'll laugh together at this rubbish when we're in D1.

That's what I was saying. It does happen..I was trying to be encouraging yet realistic in saying "prove me wrong" I really want this guy to be a dentist if he really wants to. He just has to prove a few people wrong. No matter what your GPA is, you can change it. It just takes effort and perseverance.

There are other ways I prove I want to be a dentist...I was just naming GPA as one of those ways. My bad...
