Just curious what the average number of schools you guys applied to is. I currently have 12ish on my list, but I'm refining it based on certain criteria, such as cost of living and whether the state has CWP stuff or not.

I may be looking at only 6-8 or so schools.

some would say apply to as many as financially possible, b/c you can always withdraw apps after you've been accepted to the one you like. BUT, 12 apps is a lot of work and $$$. applying to schools was a lot more expensive than i had planned. i applied to 6 and that was plenty. are you applying to all DO?

Applied: 3
Withdrew: 1
Interviewed: 2
Accepted: 2

17 - 14 md, 3 do

with not a peep from anyone

A dozen seems to be the magic number, give or take a few either way (I was a bit more than that) . Most important thing is to apply to a wide range of schools from all "tiers". Some dream schools, some shoo-ins, some average schools, etc. It's been said a million times but it bears repeating.

25 MD, 6 DO. If you have the money, I'd recommend to apply to as much as possible. After all, this is your future and it would be nice to get it right the first time. However, if you're confident in your ECs and stats, then apply to a few.

applied: 10 DO, 18MD
interviewed:8
withdrew from interview: 1
withdrew application: 3 DO, 12 MD

point is when i applied i wasnt sure where i wanted to go so i applied to a lot of schools

there are about 8 medical schools or so in my state. so I appled to those. i would suggest you apply to the in state schools because many tend to favor residents.

i think it is sooooo smart that u r narrowing it down.
I wish i had done that. would have saved me a LOT of $$$$

GOOD LUCK

MD: 6, haven't heard a thing after the secondary was sent out

DO: 8, interviewed at 7 got accepted to 7, haven't heard from 1 after the secondary was sent out

Applied to one, accepted to one.

I am applying to only DO schools, with the exception of possibly sending in apps to my two state MD schools, depending upon how I perform this next year.

My science GPA should be around a 3.40 after I submit an updated transcript with this summer's courses on it (I always make A's in the summer)

I graduate in December, so it's important that I get in my first try. I may keep the number around 9-10.

I applied to two, was offered interviews at both, was accepted to my first choice, so I withdrew the other application. I hate application processes, so I tend to apply only to the places where I want to attend. I did the same for college (applied to only 2 schools). Some people thought that was risky, others though it was a good idea, still others thought I was over-confident. Not that I'm poor or anything, but I totally didn't feel like spending money on applying to schools where I didn't want to attend

hahahaha, 46 man.

accepted to 2 (both D.O.), interview offers at 4 so far. i've only been dinged by allopathic schools so far.

Applied to 10 DO schools

Sent 9 secondaries (stupid email junk mailed my MSUCOM letter and I missed the deadline)

Got 5 Interview invites

Went to 3 of them before I got my top choice school acceptence and cancelled the other 2 interviews

Was accepted at 2 school of those

Going to UNE next year

For now, I have narrowed my list to 9 schools; I may add more depending upon my performance between now and June. My list is: VCOM, PCSOM, PCOM, KCOM, DMU, Nova, LECOM, CCOM, and NYCOM.

I'm definitely east coast biased 🙂 I love South Carolina and want to stay as close as possible. My first choice school? VCOM -- 279 miles from Columbia.

Do you guys think mid June is a bit late to be transmitting my app? I was gonna wait a bit until I got some more money.

Also, does ANYONE know if AACOMAS counts B+ as 3.5 if your institution does? I have heard both ways and nobody seems to know.

Applied to: 2
Secondaries at: 2
Interviews at: 1
Accepted at: 1 : DMU 🙂

My final list is composed of 8* osteopathic medical schools. I feel like this isn't really enough, but oh well.

I have:

PCSOM
Nova
FLECOM
LECOM
DMU-CMS
WVSOM
VCOM
PCOM-Atlanta*

I'm only going to apply to PCOM if I know the Atlanta campus will be open for the class of 2005, which is what I have been told by PCOM. However, I still don't know how I'm going to get a dean's LOR.

I guess 7 is enough. If not, then I guess my fiancee doesn't have to move to finish school after all.

that's definitely enough...you'll get in somewhere...as long as you apply to a good amount.

I would say you are still early if you submit your AACOMAS in the months of June and even mid July. As long as you get your secondaries around August, you will still be the first to get interviews in September and October assuming you qualify for an interview.

About the grade, I think AACOMAS will use their system of grading and not your schools. That B+ will probably be a 3.3 so your AACOMAS gpa may be a bit lower than your school gpa. This does happen often.
