How many valence electrons do Cu, Ag, & Au have?

I don't want to search thru my notes lol, so I'll let SDN answer this one for me! 🙂

I remember Chad saying if d subshell is filled, they don't toward count valence electrons anymore, so the answer should be 1 for all 3 of those atoms, and same goes for Zn, Cd, Hg, and Cn.

Correct?

right. so zn and it's columnmates have 2 valence electrons. is someone or something telling you otherwise?

Correct?

Does this only apply to filled d subshells and not partially filled ones? My understanding was that no d subshells count toward the valence number since they are in a lower shell (n number).

Damnn frogger is going lazy, I thought I never see the day. You are the one who is like pushing everyone else with your questions. Hey but guess what I decided to postpone my date as well. I might postpone to maybe like 1.5-2 weeks because I feel like 1001 kicked my a*s so I needed a little bit more review.

lol I just want to get it over with at this point, I would move my date up if it didn't cost so much. =/

I think I'm postponing for the 2nd time because SDN is wasting my study time lol. Plus I need this current hard DAT version (the one with the killer PAT and physics passage) to disappear too.

I will be now postponing it for the third time so don't worry about the money guys, because seriously the 90 bucks is definitely wayyy better than the time and money that I will spend on a retake for sheezies.

Haha. It takes a really long time for DAT passages to disappear. The piano passage was around for more than a few years. Even when they do go away for a while they have a tendency to show up again at the worst time....like herpes.

LOL, herpes... the gift that keeps giving and giving.

I'm hoping too that some other new easier versions pop up so the statistics of me seeing one of them slides in my favor.
