Im seriously thinking about dentistry but im worried about debts. I hear opening up a clinic can lead you to be deep in debt.

What are some other options other than opening up in dentistry?

And also how much debt do you plan to be in when you graduate and actually pursue your career?

I think most people work as an associate their first few years out of dental school. And from what I hear, it isn't too hard to find loans to buy a practice, as it is seen as an investment.

I plan on having at least 200K in loans after dental school, probably even more.

if you want to make money you have to take a risk... unless your parents are loaded...

No risk No money...:meanie:

I see that you are a pre-pharm student. I do not know all pharmacy schools, but a few my friend applied to will put her around 180K in dept by the time she is out a bit similar to amount of debt if you attend a state dental school. You will earn the same amount as a pharmacist as an associate dentist (abit up and down based on where you work). You have the oppotunity to have your dental practice and make better income as you would have opportunity to open you own pharmacy and make millions.

Therefore...
You should ask what field you should get into that you like better and does not bore you for 20-30 years. Even though I do not think shadowing will be a good representation of liking or disliking a field (what you see will be diff from what you have to do yourself for years to come), but I suggest you to go and see which one satisfies you better.

Yeah a lot of people do the associate dentist thing and eventually become a partner or work for one of those dental mill places that pay well but expect you to produce at high rates which is stressful.

I plan on being about $260,000 in debt upon graduation (including interest). I'd have to pay about $30,000 per year for 10 years I'd estimate.
