You're probably finding varied answers because diffrent programs have diffrent costs.

Some pay you a small stipend. Most charge you tuition. Don't be surprised if at private schools that tuition pushes $200,000.

My in-state school will put me $285k in debt, and an ortho residency would most likely put me another $100k in the hole @7%. Let's say I'm (somehow) approved for a $450k loan @5.5% to open a practice… how in the world will I ever pay back these loans after overhead/tax/etc. I feel like I'm drowning just thinking about it.

I can't see ortho maintaining that #1 spot for best job after this generation of dentists are genuinely screwed by debt
