Anyone know how selective the Dartmouth IM program is?

In assessing a program's competitiveness I usually look to see how many FMG's it has. However, Dartmouth's program doesn't list it's residents and where they went to school. Also confusing, the school has a great reputation, but the hospital is in a rural area (who'd want to live in Hanover, NH? ~besides me!).

For what it's worth, I go to a "top 30" medical school, have an average step 1 score, and am in the middle of my class.

I interviewed there. Its probably slightly less selective than Brown, or even about the same. Only one or maybe two residents are FMG's, but they are top notch. Very interesting group of residents from highly competative schools like UWash and UCSF. A lot of older residents who have kids. I can describe the program like this....extremely bright group of residents and attendings who want to live in a rural area with the best clinical training they can get. A lot of great applicants are turned off by the rural location, so that makes them less competative. However the ones that are there could probably have matched at many of the the top tier programs. Based on your scores, you will definetely will get an interview. Hope that helps

didnt MGH prematch a FMG this year? yes, signed OUTSIDE the match. check it out in their lineup in July. UMDNJ-RWJ has no FMG's. i guess by your criteria theyre somewhat more competitive. 👍

Tivark,
I hope you didn't take my post as a way to attack FMG's. A faculty member from my school who is on the residency accreditation committee suggested # of FMG's as a general way assessing how competitive a residency is. One genius FMG does not a non-competitive program make, but 20 grads from outside the US on a school's list can lead one to thinking that the later program is less competitive than the former.
