How soon can one book dates for step1?

Say , I wanna take the step 1 ,next week, can I just rush down to the prometric office and register, and then return next week and take the steps?

Or one has to wait a minimum period of time(90 days or more or whatever) before they are 'approved'?

It's a process, so no. You have to get forms signed by your school, etc. I'd say you need to give yourself at least 5 weeks. You also have to pick a 3 month window in which you will take the test. I dont know how early that window can be (ie: i dont know if you can take it in April if you started the application process now).
