I have the next year and half to 2 years planned out, and I'm interested in applying for the 2016 match. Being an IMG, we all know the stigma that's automatically placed on the students. I'm interested in doing research to fortify my application and be considered a competitive applicant for the match process.
Problem is, I didn't take college seriously - hence being an IMG, and kind of goofed around the lab during my research. Never did a poster presentation, and that was about all the hands on lab work I got.
I know the NIH has a summer research and 13 month research program. If I recall correctly, being a US Citizen and having passed the Step 1 were the two major requirements. My question is, what can I do to get my foot into the door and get research experience to help me down the road?
Appreciate all the inputs.
