how to go about gaining US clinical experience?

while applying to residency programs in US, they require students to have had prior US clinical experience. how do International medical graduates go about getting that? does anybody know the real picture and how to apply for the same? Is it possible to gain USCE while pursuing MPH?

As a pre-med one can shadow MDs and volunteer but why would a medical graduate (be it foriegn MGs) do all this? it's one way I can think of...
