Hi guys, I just wanted to ask how one might list this publication on AMCAS.

I am third author on a paper accepted to a conference. The conference publishes its proceedings and also publishes articles alongside the proceedings while also calling the entirety of these, the Proceedings of X. How might I categorize and list this?

It's not a poster and nor did I present; it's a complete paper with data and conclusions and everything.

Thanks.

Hmm, because you did not present anything at the conference, I'm partial towards just listing it as a publication in normal AMA citation format. Perhaps make a brief note underneath explaining the significance of the conference, and how the paper was involved in it. If not, you could always double list and use it as a "conference attended."

It makes more sense to list it as a publication rather than "conference attended" since I didn't go, right? Haha.

Also, I've been trying to figure this out with previous SDN posts but have not had much luck: is this considered the same as a regular journal publication in terms of achievement?

I meant you could list it as both, but it's not necessary to. As far as just the paper, it's a publication.

Any idea on my second question?

Thanks for the help.

It's actually in linguistics and has no relationship with biomedical topics. So I would imagine not.

Can the article be accessed on-line trhough this link?

Is a dissertation considered a publication? Its submitted via ProQuest
It was the result of a clinical trial I conducted (IRB approved)
results were submitted for publication but is currently awaiting the completion of the parent study (due to trade secrets being prematurely revealed)

I don't believe there is a peer review process at ProQuest, which is the hallmark of a "Publication" for AMCAS purposes. Also, I'm under the impression that a subscription fee is necessary to access a dissertation, so few adcomms would be able to access your work, if they wished to. Your work would doubtless stand out based on your description of the research, however. You could discuss the process of completing the dissertation under the "Other" category, if you wished.

I wasn't sure if conference papers would be different; thanks!

I have opted to disseminate the dissertation for free so that no royalties are incurred and that everybody has access to it.

So what you are saying is that since its not in a peer reviewed journal, its not a publication?

Since this thread is relevant to my question(sorry to get on board with another question):
If you have several poster presentations, but the abstracts for the posters are published in a journal, does it seem appropriate to list it as a publication? Or should I put it under Posters, but cite the abstract?

I'm assuming this is not a campus journal: One lists the most prestigious form of sharing one's data with the world, which in your case, would be "Publications" (provided it is Searchable in a public database). In the same entry, you can mention the poster and its venue of presentation.

What I am saying is that for AMCAS purposes, it would be misleading to list a self-published dissertation under "Publications."

Of course. I didn't mean for it to sound condescending (i just read it again). It was a genuine question since its my first paper that I've written. I will list it in the other section.

Thanks Catalystik! I wanted to make sure because some people told me the Publications should be reserved for actual manuscripts. Also, I looked through the work/activities thread and couldn't find a consistent answer on how to list these publications..to save space, how do you think it would be best to write them up, especially if there are a lot of authors? Basically, I'm wondering what style I should use to write them.
