Hello everyone,

I’m starting MPH this fall. I would like to ask those who completed MPH and are currently working for tips and advices about maximizing the experiences/skills during the school time. What should be one’s focus and top priority while completing MPH? courses, internships, extra-curricular activities, getting published or making contacts in the field? I understand that these are all important, but I would like to hear hands-on experience about the most useful/needed MPH skills in real life and work.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your replies. Epidemiology will be my concentration and I’m interested in research in general. I would like to work on global health &/or mental health issues. I’m wondering about the "sort" of work experiences that can help build up a competitive profile in these areas?

get a job in the field you're interested in while you're in school. applying coursework to your job and applying experiences from work to class are truly fufilling.

Thank you for your responses.

Excuse me if I didn’t get it right, but how I can get a job in the field I want to work on after earning the MPH while I’m still at school and without the degree? Aren’t these jobs requiring the degree?

Can you give me some examples of internships/work experiences during schools that are suitable for/fitting to Epidemiology career?

I appreciate your help.

You can look for student-friendly internships at companies/agencies that utilize your area of study.

For example, CDC/HHS has numerous student opportunities (although they are quite competitive).

I have this same question! Of course the most famous institutions will offer internships -- the CDC, WHO, UN agencies, etc -- but what are some other options? Is there a position at a local hospital or clinic that would be suitable for an MPH student concentrating in global epi?

Thank you for your time.
