How to withdraw?

So maybe I should put this in the "stupid questions" thread but . . .

I think it's time to withdraw from several of the schools where I applied and/or interviewed. I got into my top choice and the two best options in my state, and there's really only one other school where an acceptance (and a BIG scholarship) could possibly trump my top choice.

I just don't know how to withdraw. Do I send them an email? Letter? Call the office?

Thanks. I'd like to get out of some of these in case it would somehow help other people out.

what i did was send them a polite email/call them so they get the news fastest. then i sent a snail mail thank you note (thanks for my acceptance but regretfully, have decided some place else blah blah, really liked your school though blah)... i figure the med school admissions people have a small community and ya never know when rudeness will come back at ya... 🙂

Oh, I'm definitely going to be very polite. I feel guilty about turning down acceptances since the adcoms go through such a long process to handpick their class (yes I know that lots of ppl turn them down and that they expect some declinations/withdrawals, but I'm just weird). Some of the other schools, especially Baylor, I really did like, but I fell in love with WashU and knew as soon as I started the interview day that if I was accepted there, I would definitely attend.

The ones I WOULD like to write a not-so-polite letter to are the ones where I've been complete since August and have had no response other than "your secondary is complete." But I'll go with succinct and civil rather than "YOU ARE SO RUDE! IF YOU'RE GOING TO REJECT ME, WHY NOT SEND THE SKINNY ENVELOPE ALREADY?!!"

The ones I WOULD like to write a not-so-polite letter to are the ones where I've been complete since August and have had no response other than "your secondary is complete." But I'll go with succinct and civil rather than "YOU ARE SO RUDE! IF YOU'RE GOING TO REJECT ME, WHY NOT SEND THE SKINNY ENVELOPE ALREADY?!!"

As I withdraw from the rest of my schools today, I have to bump this genius post. It served as my personal template for writing most of my letters, and if I ever see you, Depakote, I will pay you $5.
