Hey everyone...

You're all more than welcomed to share your experince in the subject... Residents, attendings in private practice and those who are felliwship trained and currently work in academic center... I just would like to know how common (or uncommon for that mather) are robotics in different circles within the field

I have a special interest in knowing how much do you get t0 use it in the community since most specialists work in private practice wether it's solo or in groups (Im guessing the later is more common)

Thanks for your input guys... Great forum!!

Currently, there are 2 major applications for robotic surgery in ENT. First is TORS for cancer of the oropharynx, hypopharynx, and supraglottis. TORS for the glottis and lower is not there yet because there just isn't the exposure. Second, is TORS for OSA. I have found this 2nd application to be terrible, not because of exposure which is phenomenal, but because of the pain level is ridiculous vs other options for BOT surgery such as the SMILE techniqe.

One other option that is currently being assessed actively is in thyroid surgery. It has fallen out of favor for transaxillary approaches, but is growing in popularity for transfacial approaches.

I'm not aware of any other extensive applications in ENT at this time.
