For the Army, it is 4 years but if you are selected to specialize (everyone applies) you must specialize and spend another year. This is according to an Army recruiter I am currently working through.

I am under the impression that in the Army, everyone must apply, but you do not have to accept the residency. This applies to AEGD, not specialties.

From what I've read, the Army and Navy do not require AEGD attendance while the Air Force does.

According to my recruiter, if you get residency you have to accept it. That's my knowledge of the situation.
