hSDN Class of 2012

Are you okay, INS? You have me slightly worried.
I'm actually very sick. Acute onset senioritis.

No I just told him that due to my college acceptances and the fact that this semester really doesn't matter, I really don't care about my grade anymore, but I'll still put some effort into it. He said something along the lines of, "no big deal, it happens."

I should have accounted for senioritis before making my spring semester schedule. xD

I haven't applied for scholarships yet or done anything with the FASFA, I should probably crank it out. I've been so lazy with everything else but school, it's like reverse senioritis.

FWIW, I have heard rumors of colleges revoking scholarships/acceptances after seeing on the final transcript that students slacked off for the rest of the year. Again, just rumors, but something to keep in mind perhaps?

Edit: Just Googled to make sure I wasn't dreaming this up, and found this article... http://thechoice.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/18/a-warning-colleges-can-change-their-minds/

So, I guess what I'm saying is to be careful. 🙂

Yeah, besides my dedication to my academics 🙂rolleyes🙂, that is the biggest motivator for me to get good grades. Did my FAFSA except for the financial aspects (still working on income and stuff like that). Trying to find some scholarships to make it easier, but tough to find anything. Good thing my top college already gave a decent amount of fin. aid.

Oh yeah, I'll be fine. But not doing homework is a hell of a lot more fun than doing homework.

So glad that homework is never graded where I'm at. If it was, I would be done for.

I still do the homework in the classes that I just can't get initially, like Spanish. Foreign languages frustrate me at first, but after a while one gets used to it, I suppose.

Wow, you have some aid already? Nice! I am still waiting.

I was surprised when I got a letter from the financial aid office with my acceptance letter, but it was nice not having to wait to see if I got anything.

For most of my classes, our homework isn't graded (sometimes checked, but usually not graded). I think that I'd be screwed if it was graded. On foreign languages, hated taking French at my high school, but that was probably because my French teacher was partially insane.

INS, just think of it this way: at least you can get a strong streak going by doing well in calculus and your other classes. Also, it will put you in the right mindset for college and pre-med work.

Have finals this week, and then I start my last semester in my town's school system. Have British Literature, Honors Calculus, AP Chemistry, and Photography next semester. Of course, British Lit. and photography (don't ask me why I have to take photography) are required for graduation. So, I have a feeling that senioritis won't be a problem for me.

The way I'm looking at it now: I'll miss the decent kids and teachers at my high school. However, the administration at my school is really making me want next semester to fly as soon as possible.

Heh. I feel ya on rather silly graduation reqs. I had to take a typing class last semester to fulfill a technology req. Yes, a typing class. I learned how to type well in ~4th/5th grade (shout-out to Mavis Beacon 😀). If nothing else I suppose it was an easy A, and now I can graduate. 😛

Had to take welding as an elective, set an acetaline(sp?) tank on fire, got a B+ in the class... I love jumping through hoops, good thing they're aren't any of those for med school 🙂

If I didn't already, I would've had to take an art to graduate in Kentucky. My brother nearly passed a kidney stone over it since he prides himself on his Masonry and he had to graduate the next year.

Oh art class... The only class that your grade is solely dependent on whether or not the teacher likes you.

My art class probably my oddest high school experience. We were drawing nature scenes, and we all had to pick an animal to draw for our final. I drew a duck (don't ask xD) which my teacher entered in the 'Junior Duck Stamp Contest' which I had never heard of. I placed 2nd in my age group. Guess what they served at the banquet.

Your drawing? 🙂

You have won the cigar!

. . . seemed in poor, (or very ironic), taste at the time.

You haven't heard of th JDSC? I thought that was the Super Bowl of Art contests.

I had not, my lovely art teacher's eyes bugged at my ignorance.

Then I'm a very ignorant person.

My Sculpture and Ceramics I teacher didn't like me, I swear. I got an A but she was sort of hostile, calling my ability into question every opportunity that she could and I didn't even slack or do anything wrong to her. I knew that I wasn't very good, so her constant reminders of that were just irritating.

Well there's a direct correlation between capability in any medical field and sculpting ability.

If there is, I'm done for. XD

Yeah, I think I'm going to try getting some on the job training to be a pharmacy tech or an aide at a retail chain. Not at Walgreen's, they just announced a hiring freeze.

As a high school sculpture and ceramics teacher, she probably has nothing better to do than randomly question kids' art abilities.

She probably has nothing better to do. It's just so irritating, because she was one of those teachers that picked favorites and you knew whether or not you were one of them pretty early in the semester.

So Professor Snape teaches Ceramics now? 🙂

Sorry, first thing that popped into my head when you described your teacher.

INS, I know what McDonalds is, their mascot is a King, or Wendy, or something. (JK).

Luckily, I don't have her next semester, so she can be bitter all she wants. >D

Who was the worst teacher that you had, and what did they teach?

That's a tough call. I've had rough teachers in all of my subjects (except for science, oddly enough). I'd have to go with my math teacher from freshman year. Was more interested in talking with kids and the Dallas Cowboys than actually teaching us.

My brother had this crazy lady for Discrete Math and Geometry. She was obsessed with bunnies and blew bubbles during tests.

For a project about shapes and tesselations, my brother made pages filled with geometric bunnies as his project. He got a 105. XD

Never had a teacher that weird, but my (terrible) physics teacher had this innate need to change his computer background every day in an (unsuccessful) attempt to be funny.

New topic

Ever since I was accepted, I wanted to learn some things before college.

1. Play chess well
2. Learn to solve a rubix cube
3. Learn Spanish (not by taking classes, Rossetta Stone maybe, I've taken four years, so maybe it's possible)
4. Relearn how to play guitar (it's not like riding a bike)
5. Learn to draw better (I'm alright, not great)
6. Become more politically savvy.
7. (probably not gonna happen) Learn piano

Hopefully this'll keep me busy/ active over the summer.

Still loling at 'Geometric Bunny' teacher.

1) Actually save my freaking money from my summer job.

2) Memorize the periodic table with atomic weights/numbers.

3) Win the scholarship from my hospital. (50,000 for medical school, if I go in state. Never toured USD's medical school, but for that $, i'd be sorely tempted).

Tips on #2 are appreciated, I made flashcards, but any help is welcome. Good topic, INS!

Well the best way that I can think of is to associate the weight/number/symbol. Through sheer repetition I know around 20 of them... Also I wouldn't focus on elements like unobtainium.

Yeah, that seems wise. I'll use carbon more than vanadium.

I am going to major in chemistry, and while I did well in chem in HS, I want to be a little more prepped before college.

I was gonna tour one of our states med schools, but our bus got hit by a truck on the interstate.

Also, my eagle scout board of review is on the 30th and guess when the deadline is for the $48,000 eagle scout scholarship?

Edit: Carbon, 6 at. Mass 12.01g/mole oxidation number +4 nonmetal.

Wow, hit by a truck? Man, couple that with the deadline and murphy's law is doing a number on you.

Ouch, dude 😱 Murphy's Law indeed!

This summer I plan on working and spending some time shadowing . My car will be fixed in 2 days ( :woot: ), so I'm starting to figure out where I want to get a job. I work at the barn I ride at, but what I do make goes mostly to pay for lessons, so I need something else too. Hmmm...

I work at a movie theater which is great (free movies) except for the people (our boss really knows how to hire either antisocial akward kids or alleged meth heads), so I suggest trying there as it tends to get a lot busier over the summer.

Yeah the crash sucked, I really wanted to see UNMC. I also broke my nose but didn't tell anyone, since there were people in much worse conditions than I was.

Edit: Chlorine 17 at. Mass 35.45 g/mol oxno -1 highest electron affinity halogen. (for CeeEstee0)

I definitely appreciate the help, INS.

You broke your nose and didn't say anything!? You have more stones than I.

How serious was the wreck? I can't imagine that happening on one of our schools buses, the bus atmosphere is usually so fun/positive, I can't imagine such an event.

Holy crap! That's crazy. Glad everybody recovered okay. How exactly did it happen?

I am so glad you guys are all okay.

UNMC looks cool, from what I've seen online. Do they tend towards IS applicants for the medical school?

I don't know, but good luck! I can't believe you were in a crash, INS.

Thanks for the kind words. A truck driver pulled into our lane while were still in it. Physics took the wheel from there.

yeah' they mostly do instate, and it's really cheap (like 30,000/yr)

Double Frick. Good luck with the eagle scout scholarship. That will go a long way, especially with awesomely low tuition like that.
