hSDN Class of 2012

Gah! Just lost our first intramural game by 2 in over time. The only thing I hate more than losing is not winning. Not really, but I am so competitive, especially when it comes to sports.

That sucks! Basketball I assume? What position do you play?

Power forward, I've never played basketball before the season started though, so I'm still learning.

Well good luck on your future games.

I love my volunteering, but this whole getting up at 5:30 thing sux.

I feel ya. That's about what time my alarm goes off for school since we start at 7:15. Of course, I may or may not hit the snooze button a few times before actually getting up. 😀

I'm so jealous. XD That is awesome.

My car is fixed!!! 😀 I drove it to school today. And ran over a squirrel. #oops

Ah, the snooze button. In my half asleep state, I always convince myself I can shower in three minutes, and eat in two.

Normally I would be mad jealous, INS.

BUT, my copy of The Fault in Our Stars has arrived! SIGNED!

John Green, thank you.

It is a book written by John Green, he is a writer.

He and his brother also are youtubers, you can see them on youtube.com/vlogbrothers

I am just a little obsessed with his books. 🙂

Agreed.

Ah, nothing like a jalapeno-cheese bagel first thing in the morning. Just picked up six.

Nope, yum without the 'I guess'. JK.

How often does your Basketball team practice?

Never, which I don't like. I have to go to the gym and learn this stuff solo. I've definitely gotten better, but it would help so much if we practiced as a team.

It was exam week for me, so I get today and Monday off. We start Spring semester Tuesday, and I already got a take home test for AP Chemistry due Wednesday.

This will be a long semester...

Rounded out the fall semester with finals in pre-calc and AP Chem. Got a 97 on the pre-calc, and had a 90 on the AP Chem multiple-choice portion.

:highfive:

Congrats, AntiHouse!

Got my permit yesterday. =D

Wow, nice work AntiHouse! Big high five.

When can you get your restricted license, Conflagration?

My state has a graduated licensing system.

When you are 14 and a half, you can apply for Driver's Ed, which lasts two weeks. After that, there's a on-the-road portion that spans three days but can be literally months before you get an appointment.

After this nonsense, you get a Provisional Learner's Permit. You have to log the time you drive, which some of them have to be night driving(at least 60 total, at least 10 at night). After a year, you get a Limited Provisional License, which allows one to drive unsupervised between certain hours, assuming that you didn't get any refractions. After a year of that, you get a Provisional License, which is almost the exact same as the adult License.

I moved in the midst of this process, to a state that required one to be 16 before even attempting to go the DMV. By the time I was 16, I was already aware of the family plan to move back to the last state we lived in, so I waited until we got back. Crazy, huh? XD

Wow. That is an oddly complex process. Then again, in South Dakota lets just say the road test is far from stressful, and your biggest hurdle is the written.

What cars do you guys drive?

Mine is a '99 toyota Rav4, Blue.

Grand Prix 06, also blue. And, because I'll feel like less of a man if I leave it at that, 200hp 3.0 liter v6, and Pirelli racing tires.

Have my license, but don't have a car. Figured I probably won't need one in college, so I'll save my money until then so I can get a nicer car.

I drive a '99 Ford Contour. As far as college, I'll need to have a car because I'll be living off campus, but I think what my parents are going to do is keep the contour at home for my brother who will be driving in the next few months and get me a cheap used car to have at college.

I didn't think most freshman lived off campus, are you close enough to home/getting an apartment?

It's true, most don't. However, this lady my family knows has this great-aunt who lets college girls live with her for free in exchange for helping her keep up the house and such. She lives ~4 miles from the college (even closer than from my house to my school haha) and apparently is a super awesome lady.

You all have some pretty nice cars! My friend has this '95 Toyota Camry that has always been reliable. Personally, I don't care what kind of car it is as long as it runs and it's not ginormous. XD

Agreed. 👍 I was very thankful to get my dad's old car, which, even though it's 13ish years old, is still in great shape. It's a manual transmission so I had to learn how to drive stick (SO frustrating at first, but actually kinda fun after you get the hang of it), but I'm glad I know how to do it now.

Learning stickshift helps whenever you travel since you can drive both kinds of rental cars. My grandpa dragraces and my grandma can drive like a stunt guy. It's funny to watch them drive like bosses and make all the teenagers just stare at them.

I wish my grand Prix was stick. I had a stick cavalier for a while and loved driving it.

Grandpa . . . dragraces? Your grandparents sound so COOL!

Ahahaha that is fantastic. That will SO be my dad when he is old. He drives like a crazy man.

And INS, I echo that sentiment wholeheartedly. When do you all graduate? I've got... 4 months and 4 days. May 29th. The countdown has begun. 😀

May 10th is when we get out of school, then we graduate that weekend. I'll start a countdown tomorrow, to tired to figure out the days.

106 days, it also happens to be mothers day as well. Thanks Internet.

Wow, that's early! I'm jealous! When did you start school?

I had an odd weekend. My whole life I have thought my blood type was B positive. It is listed on my birthing information. I donated blood and recently got my donor card in the mail. The blood type listed? O negative.

I called UBS, and this is a common thing. People come in, and find out their blood type is not what they thought.

Anyone else have experience with this?

Also I went snowboarding, which was nice.

June 1st. Get out a week or two before that.

I think we started school August 15th ish.

Cee that's really weird because my blood type is either B+ or O because my card was inconclusive(7th grade blood thing).

Really? That is so weird!

UBS has informed me that this is not that uncommon, especially in military health care. Lots of veterans come in with dog tags that have the wrong blood type on them. They also tout the infallibilty of their own blood tests, (the woman said there has never been a misread/screwup), and that makes me wonder a little.

I mean, people could die when infused with improper blood. Thoughts?

I'm sure that they would double check using more accurate technology before a non emergency blood transfusion. But I do wonder if there have been soldiers that have died because of that.

So I take the SAT on Saturday, and I needed to get a valid and current ID. My school never gave me mine, even on the first week or so, and only like ten percent got theirs, so I figured it was just a minor issue that they'd fix. Well, they still haven't done anything about it, so I went to the office yesterday, when they told me I needed to pay five dollars to get a school ID.

I went to the office to pay for it and get it taken care of. The secretary gave me a paid slip and directed me to go to some lady's office. I go on back there, and I see the lady and she abruptly tells me to leave and come back later. Since I was doing this in my lunch period, I decided to just wait in the front part of the office. Twenty minutes go by and I go back there to check if I can just get the darn thing taken, since my lunch is only a half hour. The lady completely forgot I was there and she took the picture, which looked really sketch because our school is sort of ghetto and it had a dreadful hunter green background and really generic bold Arial font.

So, I go home after fourth period, which is right after my lunch. And guess what was sitting on the kitchen table?

My new Learner's Permit, which qualifies as suitable ID for the SAT. *headdesk*

For the ACT, I don't think that you can even use your school ID. Don't know about the SAT, but it would be really easy to make a fake school ID and take a test for someone else.

I looked that up on their website, and it said that a school photo ID was fine. It was just beyond frustrating that the lady nearly threw a clot because I was going there for something that really didn't take more than five minutes.

Yeah, that kinda sucks, but at least you can take your SAT now, and I have a new business idea for people that aren't great at standardized tests.

I'm interested in the Ford Fiesta 2012 for senior hs year/college.
