That's a really interesting article. That guy has guts, feeding the hyenas like that. What a weird/cool tradition.
Hyenas are really fascinating. I've read bits and pieces of "Cry of the Kalahari", a book about a couple who went and basically lived with hyenas in Africa for a little while. The hyenas that spent time with them became almost tame; they would sit by them while they ate, watch them wash, etc. If vet med hadn't worked out for me, I would have become an animal behavioralist (I took two semesters of Animal Behavior and my prof talked a lot about hyenas).

Fascinating story. I suppose, if its symbiotic and both species are getting something out of it then there's not much you can say against it. Not recommending the locals around here start feeding bears, but this is definitely a study in behavior I'd love to see up close and personal!
