HYPOTHETICAL: Joining Peshmerga and fighting ISIS as an EC

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Alright say hypothetically you are one of the few Americans who volunteered to fight against ISIS

I know quite a few Sailors/Soldiers/Airmen/Marines who wonder what the heck you think they were doing with ISIS on deployment? Making them cookies?

Wew that was an attention grabbing title
Alright say hypothetically you are one of the few Americans who volunteered to fight against ISIS and were a with the Kurdish Peshmerga for n period of time. What would most adcoms think of this?
80% of them would be appalled and need a safe space/therapy after reading such an app. 10% would be be silently supportive. 10% would think its awesome but not go to bat for you at the committee meeting.
But with a 600 mcat, why bother?

War...
If Trump initiates Korean War again, I am actually off to go (lol). I'm scared and actually thinking about going to church.

Many years ago I read an application from an Afghanistan student who was older as he spent his early and late teens fighting the soviets. It certainly intrigued the committee chair but we could not verify his academic record and had to reject.

How does that work? I thought if you submitted through AMCAS/AACOMAS... they would verify the transcripts/MCAT scores?

oo in b4 close this thread no bueno

Any mcat bump if the gpa is already solid?

Yes. A GPA of 4.45 really gets the adcom's attention. 😉 Seriously. I know a guy who had a decent but not extraordinary MCAT and a GPA of ~3.95 and ~7-8 years in the service. Golden application cycle. Had to turn down Harvard to attend a school in a better geographic location for his family.

Well I mean I *did* have JeanLuc as my avatar for like a year so..

If you are motivated to fight ISIS, join the US military. My estimation is that US military service is as good as increasing your GPA by 0.5 in the eyes of adcoms.
Does the peace-corps increase GPA in your book?

Only a premed would ask if war would improve their app.
I do genuinely love the rationalization that must have gone into this question. "My ultimate goal is to save lives, so I will take lives to show my altruism and aptitude as a healer."

I think this is much better left for secondaries when you are asked "is there anything else not on your AMCAS application that would be useful in evaluating you," or some similar question. Use it for what it is, a diverse experience not a volunteer or leadership experience.
