OH MY GOD! So I was talking to yet another "Specialist" about the problems with my application (MCAT Score Release Problems, Processing, etc.) He took my information down & when he got to my name, he said, "You have a beautiful name." Later, he said, "You have a wonderful speaking voice... how old did you say you were?"

What the hell is going on over there at AMCAS?! Not paying your specialists enough? Can't they afford regular dates that they don't pick up off the AMCAS helpline? Is this what I'm paying for? For some guy to get cheap thrills while I'm trying to get my applications in order?!

YUCK! A wave of creepiness has just fallen over me when I think that the people handling my medical school applications are checking people out via phone. Yuck, yuck, yuck.

Other than that, it was kind of an ego boost. Um, no, I still feel very creeped out; that effort to put a positive spin on it didn't work.

Wow. That's majorly unprofessional of the "specialist".

From my experience, they are 'specialists' in name only... ;) I haven't heard anybody who's had much of a positive experience with them.

Still, you should be able to expect better treatment than that. Had he not have added the bit about asking you your age, you might just say he's a really nice guy. But it does sound a little creepy...

Maybe he's gone insane from dealing with us obsessed pre-med's all day for the past three months. ;)

are you kidding me? this is wonderful news....this is the perfect opportunity. if this specialist is real special than perhaps he can work some magic with some of your numbers. i'm sure your stats are already great, but hey, what's wrong with a few extra points on the MCAT! Or, get that one A- turned into an A+. when it comes to getting in, i've put aside all morals. i'll pay who ever i need to pay, sleep with whoever i need to sleep with, do whatever i need to do!

    :D :D :D

I'd be happy he was hitting on me! Talk about getting your application processed immediately!! Sometimes preferential treatment is nice. ;)

    God lord!

Hey MD, his name wasn't "Melvin" was it? Because I had the same experience with him! He basically sweet-talked me for about 20 minutes (not that I was buying!) and ended up saying that he would be in my area for thanksgiving and will give me a call to get a cup of coffee! Seriously! Then..later when I got verified, he emailed me and gave me his personal email and invitation to correspond! It is a freaky experience!!! Although, now I do see the humor in it! :D

peanut, did you forward the incriminating letter to Nancy and have her take a look at the wonderful people she's hired and called 'specialists'?

    Hey daredevil,

You know. I didn't think of that! That's a great idea. I guess, I was so happy to be verified that i forgot about everything else.
Hey...come to think of it, he (Melvin) called me several times at work too!! Luckily, I am in a supervisory position, so no one else has access to my office. He was persistent, but I was kept a low profile and he finally gave up! :)

    What can I say...there are weirdos everywhere! <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Peanut's experience puts my little conversation with this guy into perspective. Scary stuff there! I was so anxious to get off the phone with him that I didn't ask his name, so I don't know if it was the infamous Melvin or not. He didn't sound too old though.

    Hey praying4MD,
I hope I don't weird you out, but I noticed you were from Texas... I bet you have one of those sexy accents. Why don't you give me a call so I can hear what Melvin was so crazy about?

Just kidding! Thanks for the laugh. :p :p :p

SDN has always had some hilarious posts. Thanks, praying4MD, for giving us something to laugh about again. :D
But seriously, both you and peanut should report your experiences to Nancy. ([email protected])

    Hey you guys!

I didn't report this incident and am not going to for a couple reasons. First off, I completely put it out of my mind in the excitement of being verified after 3 months! Then I got a couple of interviews..so even more excitement there! :D finally, like MD said, I can't prove "his" intentions to cause any harm etc...Some people would just classify this as a friendly gesture! And I don't want him losing his job because of this indiscretion. Now, thanksgiving is around the corner, and if Melvin does something stupid, like calling or showing up (he does have my address and he is from cali!), then I will definitely pursue this. Since I ignored him, he has disappeared..so a far as I am concerned, he found something else to occupy his abundant free time!

Dang people! Give the creep a break already. It's hard enough for a guy to find breeding opportunities by regular means, what with all the muscley college dude competition and all. The man found a new possible source of genetic input, and you all are slammin' the poor fella for it. No worse than a dating line and hey, he knows you're gonna be a doctor. 'Bout time we men turned the tide and started marrying women for their money. Don't even start flaming me 'cause my wife makes all the money here while I go play school every day. ;)

That AMCAS person, a temporary hire, has just been dismissed.
