So I just got my MCAT scores back and I'm devastated! I got a 22P. I have a good GPA and alot of ECs, but my MCAT score is way too low. I applied to the Boston University MAMS program and I was just wondering if I even have a chance of getting into that program with such a low score. Do most of the schools look for people that just need to improve their GPA's or are there programs out there that focus on improving MCAT. I took Kaplan and I don't know if I would benefit by taking it again. If there is anyone out there that is my same situation or has known someone in this situation, please let me know what they did. I would appreciate any advice.

The only real way to know about your chances is to apply, which you did. There's no changing that now, keep your fingers crossed. :luck:

Whether or not you get accepted into the BU program, if I were you I would retake the MCAT in April 2005.

Regarding Kaplan, don't they have a money back guarantee? I would think you could take it again for free if I remember correctly. Did you like the course or not? If you didn't like it, there's no sense in taking it again if it's not going to help you. I for one am preparing for the MCAT in April 2005 and I am not using a prep course. I personally study better on my own, but for many people the prep course is the way to go. Did you use the course to its full potential? Did you take the practice tests, the topical tests, use the Kaplan library, etc.?

Postbac programs run the gamut. Look into Drexel's MSP program--one of its specific purposes is to improve the MCAT.

I took the MCAT three times and ended up applying to a post-bacc with a 23N. If your dead set on an Allopathic program God bless you. However, I think some Osteopathic post-bacc's may give you a more fair opportunity to become a physician of any type particularly if you a lot of experience in medicine ( I was a medical technologist for 7 years before I got into postbacc). So good luck whatever avenue you choose just don't limit your possibilities. 🙂
