ideal job while waiting to apply?

I'm getting ready to apply to a master's program and a few schools. I haven't shadowed a dentist before, so my intention is to do so for at least year or so. My question though, is what would we be an ideal job to have during this time? I have a pharmacy technician job lined up, but I feel like it doesn't suit my dental career. Plus, I was reading that if you're certified as a DA and you apply, you are looked down on simply because schools consider it was a wasted certification if you're applying for dentistry. Can anybody throw me a bone?
