Iditarod WW-SDN Game Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Cohort 2 and Cohort 6 both have mushers who were killed by the bad guys. Notice how those two cohorts are the only cohorts where the remaining members have all of their dogs. During night 1 and night 2 every other cohort lost dogs (JJ gained). The mushers from cohorts 2 & 6 who lost dogs were the ones who were killed. I'm sure this means something but I just got off of work and eating pancakes and sleeping is more important to me than trying to figure this out. I'll let one of you guys do the heavy lifting.

I know this was posted a while ago, but I've been thinking: Is there another way to lose dogs besides being attacked? Like what if someone has to use a dog for their role or their item, or maybe they are just unlucky and lose their dogs? Not sure if it's a valid point or not.

The night writeup N2 said their were trail injuries AND attacks. So maybe.

I just noticed(re-reading N2 results) that WTF has only 10 dogs now?! I don't see anything in the write-up about it. What happened?

Did someone steal them? Can you steal dogs if you start to run out? Can you steal a dead person's dogs? Like when SOV died, could someone have come up with an awesome scenario that resulted in them getting more dogs?

That is a brilliant idea! You could give them a 'home', since the owner died. I'm not sure I like the idea of someone stealing dogs. Is JJ the only one that's gained dogs? It said his were healed though.

If he follows the Iditarod rules though, max is 16 dogs. Just tossing that out there.

Right, but people have lost dogs. So they would technically have room.

I haven't gone back to check numbers yet, but I think I will. I think I remember her thanking someone who gave her vetting equipment or something like that. That would make sense.

HERS were healed. Yeah, someone came into my camp with veterinary equipment and healed two of them, and I came up with an item that healed two others.

Dead or not, you would have to deal with MrsSOV, and she is a ferocious mother protecting her cubs:meanie:

I already mentioned this a few pages back...

Guessing jam's dogs can't be redistributed to those that have lost some (jj in particular)?

No one listens to me 🙁 🙁 🙁

So far though it seems like they aren't made available to others.

😕 I don't see it WTF. I see where you posted that you guessed Jam's dogs couldn't be redistributed. But what about what is happening to your dogs?

I don't think when someone dies, their dogs are automatically redistributed. That's not what we are saying. We are wondering if you could submit an Item to maybe re-home a couple of the dogs.

No, no I was just saying I had already through of the whole redistributing of dogs sort of thing.

I have no idea what happened to mine. I wasn't attacked (as far as I know received no PM to that effect) but I evidently had (and this is paraphrased ) an "exceptionally hearty" sleep last night after drinking an entire flask of rum and jumping around singing dirty versions of pop classics. I'm guessing that means they were stolen, or I lost them.

Night 3 Results:

The trip from Rainy Pass to Rohn is typically done during the day, but not with this crew; a real combination of mindless bravery and inexperienced bravado. While the trail starts on the open tundra, it soon changes direction and heads up to the summit of Rainy Pass, after which things get rough on the downhill runs with sharp turns and the feared Dalzell Gorge (the first warning of which you get from a sign saying "Watch Your Ass"). This is the location in Iditarod 2012 where a dog collapsed and was successfully revived following CPR from its musher.

Several of our mushers had to drop dogs pulling into the Rohn checkpoint after this stretch.

Long after the rest of the teams had made it into Rohn checkpoint, it became apparent that Devyn had gone missing. Search parties eventually found her body at the bottom of a rocky ravine; her team of dogs idling nearby. Initially presumed to be an accident, it quickly became apparent she had been murdered on the trail; she suffocated on the copious amounts of dog poo shoved in her mouth before her body was summarily pitched down the ravine.

Speaking of doggy poo, one musher smeared it on his or her snow gear to disguise (?!) his or her scent while snooping around another musher's campsite. Seems mushers are just obsessed with dog poo.

Another musher reported being attacked by a polar bear that managed to injure several of her dogs. The report raised eyebrows as polar bears generally aren't found in this neck of the woods ... but hey, it's Alaska, so nobody asked too many questions.

The rest of tonight's news centers ... well ... entirely on Cohort 2. Popular group.

First off, they all took a brief break to rest up and more sounds of construction were heard. One wonders where all the supplies are coming from for all this building.

The following ...

... were seen snooping around Cohort 2's general camping area, but didn't seem to cause any harm.

Our Cohort 2 mushers are all feeling a bit of remorse over losing SOV, so they did what anyone would do - they rifled through his gear. Finding, oddly enough, a pile of copies of Shakespeare's Macbeth, they decide to honor his memory by reading the play through their break. As they read the sections about Lady Macbeth's guilt and the washing of hands, each of them carefully considers if they were guilty of causing the death of SOV.

Oh, but we're not done with Cohort 2. Perhaps they should have rested longer, because this eyewitness news report was delivered describing an accident after their early-morning start (trying to get a jump on everyone, were you, Cohort 2?).

----------------------------------------------
Thin Ice!

The clear, glistening plane in front of the members of Cohort 2 is all too tempting. No deep snow, smooth sailing, fast running - they all knew they could make up ground.

"I dunno about this, couldn't it be dangerous?" asks Nohika timidly.

"All of us are behind, guys," mentioned Orcagirl, who is pleased to be the only Orca in the game this time. "Somehow we need to move faster."

"Stop being a wimp," scoffs Bold Text. "I'm gonna win this race. You know it."

And with that, she leads the charge.

BT's pups fly across the glistening plane, tongues lolling. But not for long. With a shuddering crack, the ground shatters in all different directions, radiating outwards.

"Ice! It's cracking!" yells Nohika, veering her team off to the side. Everyone follows suit, ordering the dogs away from the quickly widening chasm.

"Snickers! GEE!"
"Big Ben, Whoa, whoa!"
"Haw, Fluffybutterkins, haw!"

Everyone has survived - but now they all stare at each other with disheartened expressions, across wide cracks filled with frothing, freezing water.

Crazy scary. Sounds like someone's creativity has it out for those of us in cohort 2. 🙁 Also I would totally name a dog Snickers!

Crap. It looks like devyn was the one able to heal injured pups.

Also, I lost another dog. 🙁

Any information about how you lost it?

And I need to learn to read more closely. It's really too bad we lost devyn.

It seems like someone doesn't want communication occurring within Cohort 2. First the avalanche and now the thin ice. I know bold text mentioned not liking to invest in PMing. However, I'm not sure if this is a mod thing or from another player. It's just not fun.

Those nightvision-goggle-wearing reindeer are kind of creepy.

Also, hopefully devyn wasn't the only one able to patch up injured dogs 🙁

I was wondering if that meant no PMing for you guys. That sucks.

Second time it happened. I didn't learn anything useful, but I'm wondering if someone else did. The avalanche was right after I watched SOV's camp and saw him leave. It makes me wonder if there's a wolf in my group and who it might be. :scared:

So I'm about to turn off the electronics for the night. It looks like this lynch is open until noon tomorrow. So for now I'll lynch FH. Don't have a good reason (like a lot of my lynches). Unless someone ends up having information or a gut feeling, my vote will probably stay.

Dang, WTF keeps happening to WTF's dogs?

If the wolves took out devyn b/c she was a healer, guessing the wolves have the same ability to make their own items? Or a plain old seer?

I am holding off on my lynch for now.

All I know is they are "missing" and that I caught sight of some of them, but was too slow to catch them. It doesn't sound like stealing per se, just people letting them go in the middle of the night. Maybe for my item tonight I will suggest a guard llama :/

i was the one attacked by the polar bear. now I'm down to freakin 10 dogs.
I haven't even had time to submit items ugh.
on top of that, my laptop charger broke.
so I won't have my laptop until I get a new one.
ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh stop killing my dogs! 😡
