“Protect” the children from “LGBT groomers” eventhough so many people caught with child porn, raping kids or on “To Catch a predator” are “pillars of community”…. But don’t protect them from corporate exploitation, dangerous work conditions, or from being dumb-asses by not going to school…. 🤦‍♂️

I’d like an audit of where the ppe money went. My husband is a pilot who flies a pos rich DB who “runs” the family construction company… by that I mean he gets three hour massages while some hard working suits keep the company going. He got two bailout checks… 6 million each. Did he pay his workers - no. Did he reinvest in his company and grow it hiring new workers ? No. He upgraded his g4 for a global express - that’s where his ppe money went. His boss has made the comment several times that that’s what a bunch of his golf business owning buddies have done…. Bought jets or upgraded. Tons more plane owners these days…. Hard to find pilots for them too

Someone sounds jealous. You’re what’s wrong with society. If you want what he has go get it. Otherwise, mind your own damn business

These type of people crack me up. This ***** knows nothing of what it took to build the business to where it is. Or how many generations it took to get it there. Instead all she does is point fingers and whine like a little baby about how it’s not fair he’s so rich. Oh and he doesn’t treat his EMPLOYEES as equals when they own nothing. Has no clue about his books but claims he did xyz with stimulus. Then all you other losers pile on. Just pathetic

Guess you’re OK with 9 years old working?

Remember it took federal regulations to make child labour illegal, make equal pay legal, forcing corps to give you safety equipment, make corps give you a 2 day weekend, make them give you overtime etc

If you enjoy or did any of those, thanks the “woke leftists”

Lol auditing the PPE money is just persecution of the rich? The rich couldn't possibly have lied or stolen to get where they are now, just legit bootstrapping only lads, all of them. Especially the ones born in to it, they are the most honest and scrappy of them all.

Here’s a searchable database. A LOT of anesthesia groups are in it.

The entire "stimulus" package x 3 didn't get spent correctly. Trillions wasted or given away so now we as a nation must pay for it. Still, no nation spent more on Covid than the USA. How about we pass a budget based on 2019 and keep it there for 3 years. That alone would help our debt problem.

You
Have you seen both of them though? Like my dude, Trump AND Biden are both past 75. They ARE senior citizens.
Are you really typing this with a straight face? Begrudgingly I voted for Biden due to Trump being too polarizing. I’m now regretting I voted period.

I’ll undoubtedly be voting for Desantis if he makes through the primaries. If it’s trump or whomever the dems run god help us.

You'd rather choose the guy who is running Florida further into the ground than it already is?

I have no respect for vaccine skeptic Desantis. Desantis will bring Ladapo and "America's Frontline Doctors" to the White House if he wins.

Actually his father was sentenced to 3 years in prison for white collar crimes but was pardoned. It made the news. My husband just resigned as he was uncomfortable with some of the things the accountant wanted him to document, amongst other things. I know that’s what he spent it on because he tells everyone that’s what he did with it.

Compare this to what FL & TX are doing & one gets a glimpse of what a complete Dem vs a complete Rep government would be like…
I know, right?

Downtown San Fransisco (democratic policies galore!) has never been better!

And people are fleeing Utah and Idaho (Republican run) for greener pastures over in California.

Man…when you are right, you are right!

Happy to help keep Republicans out of poverty…

No one says that Dem policies are w/o issues (obviously… but way to try to make it a “gotcha”).
The argument (rather the FACT) is that the alternative is worse.

Also.. the tax thing.
Feel free to look it up.
The higher taxes in CA are for the higher earners and NOT the middle class.

The homelessness, drug addiction, gun violence plaguing cities (ALL over USA), are due to many reasons, but not having a living wage, being exploited by companies/employers, wage theft by them, being held to a ****ty job due to need for insurance etc… all of those are things that Republicans (and a lot of Dems) champion.
If every time a Dem leaned slightly left of McConnell they weren’t accused of SOCIALISM, and if smooth-brained voters could actually see that it is the corporations (and not welfare folks) stealing their $, maybe we’d have better outcomes.

As an example, when was the last time police actually stopped a crime?
They give chase after someone has been robbed, they shoot & kill innocent people while looking in the wrong house, they murder (mostly minorities) during traffic stops… so when someone says Defund Police (although a very poorly chosen phrase) Republicans get all up in (pardon the pun) arms about it… yet if folks had the above mentioned “luxuries” there would definitely be less crime.

Why are we OK with spending $X on jailing someone when it costs way less to help them with the addiction so they don’t try to rob someone, or hurt someone…. Because there is no profit in it & hence Republicans are against it.

Their strategy is usually the same…
Underfund gov services to the point where they cannot function.
Then use that to point out why “gov is broken”
Privatise that service
(Schools, public transport, post office all have had this attempted - with some “success)

Lastly… please review the poorest states in US… guess how many of bottom 10 are Republican?
Guess how many states pay more into the federal budget than take out… and how many of those are Republican?

Like a dumb-ass lab partner, we are stuck with Republicans and hence will always bail you out when you beg for $ cos your electric grid failed (cos Texas doesnt need to make its grid to federal standards), or when trains derail (cos Trump did away with the regulations that mandated newer brakes), when the hurricanes hit (why can’t you just move to a different state)… 🤦‍♂️

Would forced “continued” pregnancy be OK…
Either way.. its semantics.

There are many other things that I mentioned… but I don’t see you arguing against those 🙄
I didn't argue those, because I basically agree with those criticisms and the broader idea that most of the GOP (and especially the Trumpcult) is a mess.

But the point was that it only takes one bit of obvious falsehood to divert attention from the rest of the argument, however good it might be.

You'd rather choose the guy who is running Florida further into the ground than it already is?
Not everywhere can be a Chaz Zone utopia....
If Florida would only had stayed under lock down with continued triple masking it could join the ranks of those fine blue shoot em up wonderlands where if you want to be a sports hero... just wear a dress.

No it's not good for true GDP. It simply ties up resources, transfers money from A to B, and adds nothing to true wealth and economy.

The same could be said about healthcare which accounts for 18% of our current GDP. I prefer it go to healthcare but in both cases the end result is dead people. Take your pick….healthcare industrial complex vs military industrial complex.

Excuse my nihilism but what is “true wealth”? What is a more worthy way to spend money? Enormous houses? Eating out? Fashion? Home decor? Fancy cars? Fancy guns? NFL tickets? Boats? Fancy vacations? Any other forms of mass consumption and consumerism that we have been brainwashed to believe is important?

Don't fall for it. There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic for America's future. People like Blade have been prognosticating America's decline and fall for 80 years. The idea that we will become a "third world" nation is ridiculous on etymological grounds alone. (The terms "First, Second and Third World" are holdovers for Cold War alignment, not indicators of economic development/collapse.)

Comparisons to the Fall of Rome or Britain are perennial among the doomers. Was January 6th equivalent to the Cataline conspiracy with Liz Cheney standing in for Cicero in the aftermath? Please.

There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about America's future:
- wealth and wage inequality has been declining over the past decade
- large (partially) bipartisan infrastructure bills were signed into law (CHIPs and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act)
- unemployment is less than 4%
- huge investments in clean energy development are starting to bear fruit especially in red states

Plenty of problems too to be sure, but the doomerism isn't warranted for the vast majority of Americans.

30 short years ago I had to carry a pager, quarters, and know the locations of all the pay phones around town.

Every single thing you mentioned from healthcare to the following list is some form of a tangible good or service to the people of this country even if a lot of it means nothing to you and I. Building bombs to drop in other countries doesn't fall under that.

But you do bring up an important point I've always said, that "unemployment rate" and "GDP" are fairly meaningless numbers without context. For example gambling in casinos adds to GDP and communism has basically a zero percent unemployment rate.

The engineers at Northrop Grumman don’t live in a vacuum and they don’t live in Ukraine. They live in LA where they are productive members of the community. And the gambling industry provides a very respectable livelihood for millions of Americans.

So is the point that you shouldn’t work harder for greater rewards? The people I know like working at Amazon because of the pay and benefits (fewer have said they thought it was too hard and took an easier job). In return for the compensation, they expect you to work harder…so what? That would be like saying we all should’ve taken the easier path and not became physicians. I guess I just don’t get this mentality.

I'm just walking through this, but there is not a system where each person can have equal control. Power always will get localized to the few. That power usually goes to one end of the spectrum versus the other. Either government (dictator, socialism, etc) or corporations (capitalism, laissez-faire) are going to have the power. I instinctively trust politicians and governments less than corporations. Government seeks to take and rule over those that do the work and put in the labor. Corporations usually had to do something to get their power. They gave something in return for their power/money and they usually delivered a better product than society otherwise would have received.

Is there a situation that I'm not thinking of that the government would have delivered a better iPhone, Amazon, Microsoft? Sure some business owners can take advantage of people, but people can vote by quitting the job or not buying the product. Corporations come and go through this type of "voting" by people. Government is in control and doesn't relinquish the control, they just pass it on. Politicians get obscenely rich (like some owners) by doing less and providing less. I'll take my chances with the business owner over the government/politician.

We can vote for different governments too.

What kind of "control" are you talking about? Give me a more concrete example of what you're talking about where you think the government should relinquish power, because in my mind, the government is relinquishing power all the time under Republican politicians. The EPA is being gutted, taxes are lowered, zoning laws are abolished, child labor laws are reduced, etc... There are even some issues Democrats reliquish power for at local levels like reductions in policing obligations and capabilities. Those are all examples of "power and control" flowing from the government to people/corporations.

It's hard to understand what you're really complaining about without clear examples.

Edit: thought of other examples: just looking at SCOTUS we can point to the Voting Rights Act being gutted, as well as the long standing interpretation of the 2nd amendment to not include an "individual right to gun ownership" as being changes which (arguably) shift power from the government to people. I would disagree with those changes as being positive btw.

Your missing the point of what is a thriving economy. It's not transferring money from person A to person B; it's what you are producing and contributing to society. Those LA engineers are simply getting money from someone else, zero sum gain, while producing nothing particularly useful to us. Same with casino workers.

I'm not surprised that tweet zipped right over your head. In another era you probably wouldn't have understood this political cartoon either

May I suggest with disagree without the insults. Personally, I couldn't care less, I'm well past getting upset because a complete unknown to me on the internet calls me names, but a moderator doesn't allow it and another interesting thread and debate like the last one will be cancelled. Thanks 🙂

Just took care of a 102yo with a hip fracture this week. Is putting a hemi hip or an ICD into a 90yo nursing home resident contributing to society? As I suggested earlier, the healthcare industrial complex is just funneling money in our direction. Hospitals are the largest employers in many cities. Is it better to be funneling money to Forever 21 or McDonald’s instead?

There's going to be a time soon when the burden on the productive will be too great to bear and the excesses of our society will be curbed

Half the time it’s used, “woke” seems to be a synonym for “black person” or “gay person”. See, for example, the Wall Street Journal columnist Andy Kessler’s recent opinion piece insinuating that Silicon Valley Bank collapsed because they had “‘1 Black’, ‘1 LGBTQ+’ and ‘2 Veterans’” on the board.
