So I'm in my 2nd year of uni and this semester, I pass/failed orgo 2 because I was on the edge of a C-/C and felt that there was a chance I would fail the class.

I know some dental schools would consider the pass/fail option for pre recs for this semester, but most would not. If I were to retake orgo 2, would I need to take it before applying or can I take it the semester after applying? I believe that as long as I finish all my pre recs before matriculating it should be fine?

Also I plan on taking the DAT this summer, so if there's any doubt about my knowledge, would they consider it to be fine if I do well on it?

Yes, it would help if you did well on the DAT. You will be asked about your poor grade, so be sure to expand on the reason for it if asked. Yes, as long as you complete your requirements by the time of matriculation then it’s fine.
