I know the obvious use of buzzwords is being phased out, but if they are used on Step 1 can you count on them? Would they mention a new military recruit with nuchal rigidity but not have that mean N. m?
I got a few questions wrong on a practice exam because I was reading too much into the questions...keep it simple for Step 1, right?

I think 99.5% of the time you can be assured that it's the obvious. The other.5% they are probably testing your understanding of a really big important concept that would contradict the obvious answer. So unless your goal is a 300, I would answer the N. meningitis. ALso, would you be more mad at yourself for talking yourself out of the obvious easy answer or getting "tricked"?

Yeah I agree even when it may seem "too obvious" usually I think it really is. There were some I marked and went back and poured over thinking they were somehow trying to trick me but I'm pretty sure they weren't. Just make sure when you see a buzzword to not go straight to the answer choices...make sure you read what they are asking for.

If it is the obvious answer like that example they will probably be asking you something about its resistance pattern, biochemistry, treatment, or some other higher order thought process that is less clinical.
