I thought this might get some non-medical related wheels turning. This is esp. for those with deadlines and need an immediate distraction.

If you could pick ANY career and financial issues/stability was not an issue (imaginary universe of course) what would it be?

now i have to say crack *****. Or a crack *****'s pimp.

Definitely a fashion photographer for Victoria's Secret or Sports Illustrated (s.s. edition) :D What's better than getting paid big bucks to shoot beautiful women on exotic islands.

uh.... why get paid to shoot pictures of women when you can dress them up for fashion shows? you know they just walk around naked backstage, waiting for the next article of underwear to get put on them, right? not to mention you're constantly touching them...

hey, not my cup of tea, btw, just a suggestion

A bum husband w/ a hot wife and 2 cute daughters - is that a job? ;)

I'd like to be a NBA player like Steve Nash if given the opportunity.

Hmmm...

I think I'd definitely go for pro athlete.

Either a pro golfer, or an NFL player (not sure about position...probably either TE or LB...QB is too easy of a choice, and I'd like to get to hit people a bunch)

Ummm...I would be a physician. I don't really care about money (beyond being able to support myself) anyways, so this is sort of a "duh" question.

Writer or musician.

wait a minute. so if financial issues/stability weren't a concern, you'd be a pro athlete? so essentially, the main thing holding you back here, from being a pro athlete, is the income?

Professional bullrider. The PBA is calling my name.

Dabble in politics of some sort <cackle>

No...we're in an "imaginary universe" -- what's holding me back is obviously talent.

rock star
pro baseball player
doctor

in that order, and yes, doctor would definitely be on my dream career list.

retired movie star--all the perks, none of the work

Any type of job where I would be surrounded by beautiful women.

If I couldn't be a doctor, then I would be:

a stay at home mom or

public health official or epidemiologist. I would love to be involved in the politics of public health policy making. Hey... maybe it is still in my future.

Iron Chef Blinky :D

or a painter..

or a musician..

Definitely a rock star. The lead singer who plays the piano up front and has the crazy in-my-face hair. And wears glitter.

Good stuff people. esp. the ones exploring intergalactic options. Out of curiosity though, have most of you actually dabbled at all in your dream fields...aside from the medical stuff of course?

Yea..have you dabbled? I'm talking to the guy who wanted to be a porn critic

president. too bad i wasn't born on US soil

without stress or being pulled in a lot of directions i get pretty bored.

i was big into politics before college and then somehow found myself all about medicine. maybe bridging the two could be nice later in life (like Senator Frist). not sure, just thinking aloud.

If I couldn't be in the medical field, I would think about being an engineer or an astronaut. I am an engineer now, and I have worked for NASA.

Nah, still would be a photographer. I would hate to be their lackey. Plus I'd like there to be some skills involved. Not a bad idea though. :D

dessert chef, or a crazy huge super model, or a painter...maybe even a dessert making super model who hangs her paintings at her runway shows.

any job?
international adventure trip critic for outside magazine. trek and climb in exotic locations, travel the world meeting great people and sampling native cultures, scuba diving in tropicale locales, river rafting the world's great rivers AND GETTING PAID FOR IT!

I would love to teach philosophy or mathematics and spend the rest of my time doing research in these subjects....but alas, it is very unstable and not high paying.

We're talking no financial concerns?

Professional Student. Seriously. I'd take 3 classes/quarter and actually ENJOY learning. Then I'd be a writer in my spare time.

writer/philosopher

Assuming my primary goal in life would be to simply enjoy myself, a ski bum out west. I'd give a few lessons each day, patrol the slopes, etc. What a life that would be.

I love the professional student idea. That would be on my list!

I want to be a farmer doctor. A small-scale, family farm owner, organic produce, a cow and some chickens, etc. And then I could also be the local rural doctor, with my office on my first floor! And I would do FP and my husband would do IM, so we'd each work half the day, and I'd see the peds cases and all OB, and deliver babies, and my husband would see the adult cases. And we'd have kids of our own and live on the farm and grow our own food. That's my dream world.

--Jazz Musician
--Bollywood Movie Director (those that know what Bollywood is, will understand why Bollywood)

1) Ninja
2) Rock Star
3) Porn Star
4) Pirate
5) Ninja-Pirate

drummer in a rock/jazz band
hiphop/Latin choreographer and dancer
astronaut
novelist

Poet or writer.
Pianist.
Foreign language guru.
Owner of bed and breakfast on the ocean (my retirement dream, actually) :)
Small art store owner where I could paint and make jewelry.

I used to want to be a singer, and I can sing really well actually, but I don't like the idea of "stardom". It is so fake nowadays, and fame seems like a burden. And I want a bigger purpose than being pretty and singing pretty...

All the stuff I listed pays for crap, but I can do most of it in my spare time, so that's cool.

Another one would be criminology, I would've done that if I didn't get into med school I guess...

musician (alternating between classical, jazz, rock, pop)

Doctor

Professional student

Chef

I would alternate between those four...I want it all, and if this is imaginary then damnit I can have it all!

- rock star (lead singer, drummer, bassist, guitarist, keyboardist, the hot chick that plays the tambourine, whatever)
- lyrical genius/poet
- photographer/painter
- celloist (i don't even know how to play, but damn are those things sexxxy)

alas i dont' have any talents necessary for those occupations

i'd also like to be an astronaut, world-famous humanitarian, and/or nobel peace prize recipient.
