If you had a choice between dmu and cspm

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I heard from the podiatrist I shadowed that CSPM has begun a bit of a downhill slide... Not sure, but he suggested I don't go there.

Can you tell us what your podiatrist said? Or give us any indication why CSPM is having this downward slide?

I don't wanna reveal him from anonymity, but he's been practicing for 15-20 years and said that when he originally went, CSPM was one of the best. Now, his opinion is that Scholl, DMU, and Temple were the leading schools (why I decided to interview). While you should take everything everyone says with a grain of salt, he had recently been expanding his practice with more podiatrists, so I feel that he has a better feel for the schools than I did at the time. Honestly, I think that no matter WHERE you go, if you're an outstanding student, you will achieve success anywhere.

I would go to dmu, no one on here talks about cspm and usually only good things are said about dmu.

I chose DMU for their board pass rates, and residency placement success.

They also have the best corn to student ratio, and that was a big factor for me.

just go with whichever school you felt more comfortable at. some people will thrive in the bay area and some people will do well in des moines. location is a pretty big factor, seeing as they are pretty much complete opposites.

Yeah, after coming from San Antonio, Des Moines is....well....I hate Des Moines.

We really cant make that decision for you but...

Do you want slightly higher board pass rates (DMU) or do you think you will excel no matter where you go?

Do you want early clinics starting in your 2nd year (CSPM) or would you like to concentrate only on courses (DMU)?

Do you want to live in a big city or a little big city?

With this question comes cost of living. Cheap (DMU) or expensive (CSPM)

Does snow bother you or do you want a more temperate climate?

Sweet corn or avocados?

Go with your gut feeling.

You actually have the option for clinic time your second year at DMU. You are able to sign up for about as much time as you would like.

You aren't seeing patients by yourself yet, but you are with a third year and a doc.

I'd go with CSPM. Their clinics are more superior in my opinion. i.e. Rotate at top US hospitals such as University of california, San francisco. Also, the school is near top residency programs such as Kaiser SF Bay Area which is something to think about. Its an older school, it has a large networking pool and some of the best podiatrist graduated from this school. And last but not least...i like big cities (because we all know...big cities = big tities) so SF> Des Moines.

Just my opinion. (All the Harvard/DMU students please dont rape me.)

Have you been to Iowa? Everyone is corn fed and enormous! Second only to the SEC though... Since the SEC is better than everyone at football, I feel that trouble brews on the horizon anywhere I go... But CSPM has such a small class? Do students have trouble networking? I mean, when I asked for advice here, a lot of the practicing physicians got their jobs because the group that hired them had alumni from their schools...

Welcome to Iowa! You'll regret the social life decision, I promise - but you'll do better academically probably. Also, I'm not sure if you're into country music, but I swear that's all that this state knows exists in terms of music. I heard more country here in the first week of living here than I did my entire life!
