II-induced panic ..

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Long long long year awaits. Don't worry about other people (much easier said than done, but it will make you more sane). People getting interviews when you submitted before them means nothing. You don't know how the school decides to send out invites and you may not even get an invite until the new year. Sit tight. Good luck!

Are you serious? This process is all about being calm and patient. It is waaaaaaaaaay too early to be worried about not getting II's yet. I'm honestly surprised that anybody has gotten any at this point since it's only been like two or three weeks since secondaries started going out. Give the schools a chance to read your app before you start freaking out.

I'm not even complete yet and I'm not worried. So chin up, take a big breath ... we have a long year ahead of us 🙂 We'll get there!

There is no need to worry until after you finish your Thanksgiving dinner and even then, half of the people who didn't have an interview by that date eventually got at least one. Pour your favorite beverage, put your feet up and relax. It is out of your hands now and you need patience now more than ever.

Patience is a virtue, the need for instant gratification is not.

Schools stratify the apps as they come in and don't send out IIs merely in chronological order.

Secondaries are also a tax on the hopelessly naïve, if not pathologically clueless.

Who else is feeling this? Seeing multiple people get IIs from multiple schools I applied to is giving me a serious case of anxiety. I haven't heard back from a single one. To top it all off, many of them were complete over a week later. I know it's too early to really worry, but I can't help but think that this is bad news for me. Causing me to doubt my chances entirely.. 🤔

@radioactive15 I totally realized this after people started posting about submitting their secondary on a school-specific thread hours after the first ones went out and I hadn't even sat down to think about the questions yet

This is sort of related, but how do the schools stratify applicants when reviewing them? Is it just GPA and MCAT?

I'm mostly wondering because my LizzyM is ~78 and I applied very early, but I have not gotten any II at schools that have been sending them to similar stat applicants. I'm not actively worrying yet, but I was wondering if I might be pushed to the bottom of the pile because I reported an IA (alcohol). Is that something schools do? I'm not worried that it will actually keep me out of med school, but I'm wondering if I should expect later IIs because of it.

There are as many ways to stratify as there are schools. Remain composed.

Mission of school (includes any mandates for IS applicants)
Veteran or URM status
Legacy status
Research bonafides.
ECs and service

Just a few

I highly, highly advise you to relax because as others have said, this is going to be a long year.

As an example, I applied in July. Got an II in September for October; WLed 12 weeks later. Then October for December; WLed 2 weeks later. Then November for January; WLed 8 weeks later. One school didn't even send me their secondary until January, interviewed there in February; WLed 2 weeks later. (Even received an II in April for an MD school.)

Point is, I didn't know what my future held until the end of April. That's 8 months of waiting since submitting. So start building up that patience. 🙂

This sounds like hell. IDK if I could take that and make it out the other end. I guess getting in is some solace to you though 🙂

I hadn't even submitted my primary by this date last year. Yet here I am, having just finished my first week of medical school. Take a deep breath (inhale deeply through the nose), and exhale slowly. You're still a long ways from needing to panic.

Hang in there y'all!!

The toughest and best advice to give is to NOT PANIC
Much easier said than done, though.
Just realize that it's a long marathon that can be painful real quick if you beat yourself up over it along the way, while working to not be complacent.
In my case, I didn't know my future until the end of June.
End. Of. June. As in, after I turned in my primaries for the re-app. Not complaining, though

If you've already submitted your secondaries, there is no reason to continue checking the SDN school-specific threads because it will only induce anxiety.
yeah, basically submit all of your secondaries and just block r/premed and sdn from your browser until the application season is over.
