Let's say you did a 2 year fellowship in ID and then decide you really want to do heme/onc afterwards. Will they require you to do a full 2-3 years H/O fellowship or give you just a 1-1.5 year clinical fellowship without the research requirement?

Variable. Hem/Onc doesn't have the kind of "1 and done" pathway that CCM does. I suspect you'd be looking at 2 years minimum, and that would be at the discretion of the PD.

You will still have to do 3 years of fellowship
2 years if the PD of the program agrees in very rare cases. Very rare cases which I have never seen or heard about.
