It's the last semester of HS for me and everyone is talking about their plans. A lot of the extremely smart people are also looking at going into pharmacy.

These people are 3.8+ unweighted GPA people, they have taken many AP classes, and been involved in clubs (most have been some sort of officer in at least 1 club) or they are in sports.

I currently am close to having a 3.6 GPA, but I am currently taking my first AP classes and haven't been able to join any clubs due to my after school job. I have been doing concurrent enrollment, and I have a 3.35 (11 credit hours) college GPA. My math/science GPA is currently a 3.0 (6 credit hours).

I'm very worried that I have already messed up my chances. I know I haven't taken many classes, but it always seems very hard to raise a GPA, but easy to lower it. I also feel like it would look odd on my resume if I went to college and started joining clubs for the first time.

I was planning to apply for a pharmacy tech job (so I could get a feel for the job and show my interest), but I've heard that pharmacys are bombarded with applications/requests to work during summers and weekends. I've had one job my whole life (I work at my family company as a secretary, which I feel like gives me a disadvantage b/c of WHO employed me), so I feel that working there for so long shows my consistancy and loyalty. When would be a good time to apply? Should I apply as soon as I get my diploma?

Is it acceptable to work at a pharmacy where I don't get my prescriptions filled? If I get hired at a different pharmacy, should I transfer my prescriptions there?

Does anyone have any advice on how I can motivate myself more, do better in classes, or raise my chance of getting into pharmacy school?

Hey, I'm in my last semester of HS too! I know exactly how you feel with all those smart people with uber high GPAs because most of my friends are the people in the top 10 but I'm just there with my 3.7 GPA lol. But honestly, I don't think it would matter if you joined anymore clubs or not at this moment, assuming that you have already applied to a college of pharmacy because then it would just look like you're trying to do more things at the last minute instead of showing dedication to that club.

You should probably apply for the pharm tech job as soon as possible before spots fill up. And maybe mention that you are going to go to pharm school, maybe that'll help because then you might intern with them and whatnot, i guess.

Everything changes once you get into college....A lot of my friends who had 3.8s and 4.0s in HS ended up sucking *** in college. It's a whole new ball game. Get involved in some ECs and get some pharm exp.

What you do in high school really doesn't matter at all as far as pharmacy school admissions goes; if it did, then I would be screwed! My high school GPA was probably around a 2.5 or so, but once I got into college I really focused and have done really great things since. So far I have gotten into 3 schools and will likely be accepted to another 2-3 before it's all said and done, and during this whole process not once was I asked about high school.

I know that some people don't do as well, but I currently have a 3.35 college GPA and my friend who will be attending the same school has a 4.0 college GPA right now. I just feel like I'm already at a disadvantage. The reason why I pointed out the HS things is because it sort of tells you the type of person they are to how I am. Usually people maintain the same amount of involvement and they don't suddenly loose their study habits (at least never these people--they have never drank, had a boyfriend/girlfriend, never had a job, just studied their whole life).

I need to start trying harder, but it's senior year and I really feel like slacking off and one of my AP classes is taking up a ton of my time.

I can't imagine that any schools will want them if all they do is study. There is a lot more that goes into an application besides grades. Yes grades are important but they are not the only thing.

plus college is a much bigger place than high school and there is a lot more opportunities to get involved and a lot more publicity in the things that you can get involved in.

Join some clubs or do some volunteering. Say.. one club you would enjoy just for fun and another one for connections and whatnot. Pre-pharmacy club is always good 😛

OKgirl... there's no secret in doing good at college. Those that get good grades in college are the ones that study, study a lot. Some classes will be easier for you and you'll find you can spend a minimum about of time studying outside of class to get an A, while some classes you'll have to study an extra 15 hrs a week outside of class to get an A :scared:

By all means, have a life outside of school, volunteer, join a prepharmacy club at school, do some kind of regular exercise, but above all, study. Hard work is the only thing that will get you into pharmacy school. Just keep focused and determined and it'll eventually happen.

Ditto to that... I had a 4.0 in High School and graduated university with a 3.0... oops.
But that doesn't mean you can't get in... I've had one interview already and another on 2/14.
Focus on school, get a job as a pharm tech or volunteer in a hospital pharmacy and you'll be fine.

Elementary School:College :: High School😛harmacy school

In most cases, anyway.

I so agree....going from HS to college is totally different..people discover new friends, relationships, social lives, different level of classwork, schedules...it basically the first step into young adult life and sometimes even the most studious people in HS do a 360 in college!
