I'm thinking about applying to more schools. Is it too late and will I be wasting money?

So I might apply to a few more schools.. but I found out that some of these schools require additional letter of recommendation which I probably need another 3-4 weeks. Am I going to be wasting my money if I apply in mid October? I understand it is definitely better to apply early as soon as possible but my coworker applied really late and still got in, and read some posts here about late applicants, so I might as well give it a shot?

October is pretty late since you'll be interviewing post-December (4-6 weeks to verify GPA and mail out). People have gotten accepted doing it, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I have already applied, so everything else is ready to go, including the gpa and dat. Just need one more recommendation letter. Out of curiosity, what is so bad about the post-december interview? Does it mean getting waitlisted at best?

It's a waste. I think it's a waste to apply even in September, but that's just my opinion.

If you have no problem spending the cash and feel like you have even a slim shot, then go for it. It is most certainly not too late. Not optimal, but not too late.

This process is wildly unpredictable, and your results may surprise you. Its mostly an issue of "what could have been?" if you don't apply. Make them say no.
