I am a foreign med graduate and I want to apply for Dental school here in US. It would be grateful if my fellows give some references or advices. I do appreciate it!

If you dont mind can I ask why are you considering changing field from med to dental considering you already finished 6 years of med school and DDS would take another 4 years while u can straight away get into a medical residency and spare yourself from the horror!:eyebrow:😕

I think you need a dental degree to get admission into DDS.

No, you don't if you apply like a regular undergrad graduate. The MD will, of course, not allow advanced training, but it's not like they teach much dentistry in medicine.

The thing is I am not foreign trained dentist. I am foreign trained MD and move to US quite a bit late for my age. It's getting more competitive to get into med residency here in US.
I contacted some dental school and they all have the same prerequisite requirements as a US bachelor degree before applying. It will take me good 2 years to study for these stupid horrible organic chemistry, bio with lab ..... I am looking for dental schools which consider part of my coursework as a substitution so I won't have to spend all 2 painful years in college to re-do it.
Very appreciate all the info.

I guess advance standing course in dentistry can not be done after MD .

For getting advance standing in DDS u have to pass atleast NBDE part 1 some schools may require part 2 also.

AND To be eligible to take the NBDE Part I, your dental school must certify that you have completed all the necessary course requirements included in the tested content of Part I or Graduates of international dental schools must have their official dental school transcripts verified by Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. and as u r not a dental graduate this is not possible in your case.
Though MD is a higher PG degree but I guess dental schools wont allow any MD doctor to get into advance standing...... as by any MD applicant eligibility criteria for admission in advance standing can not be fulfilled (ECE/WES evaluation of dental school transcripts and NBDE part 1) , they can only offer u normal 4 year course not 2 year advance standing.
and to just assure u sir getting into dental school for regular course or for advance standing is also not a piece of cake ...it has hell lot of competition just like residency....getting into medical, dental or paramedical is not easy in US... but it is doable.
I wish u good luck.
Regards

There's no short cut. I think technically, dental school would be even more work for you than staying in Medicine.

yes, i am talking about start over 4 year- DDS program. I know its hard but doable is great news. I just wonder if the school will consider your past- coursework transcription as a part of the prerequisite and you only need to take some more credits to eligible to apply.

Thanks for these info.
