So my low-cost tutoring business, which I've worked very hard to maintain over the last 15 months, has unfortunately fallen apart in the last few weeks or so for reasons that I won't bore you with (mainly due to lack of business). I also spoke about this experience at my pre-health committee interview over the summer, and I received Recommend With Confidence.

Who thinks I should mention this experience on my AMCAS app when applying for the first time next summer? I certainly learned a lot from the experience, but I'm not really sure how committees view the fact that I eventually failed.

Booo. Thoughts?

There's actually a few schools that have a secondary prompt along the lines of "discuss a time you tried your best and failed at something. Detail what you learned"

You could definitely talk a lot about what mistakes you made, where you would improve if you could do it again, and what skills you built because of the experience in general though. There's a difference between someone who says they failed at a class because you suck, versus failing a class because they recognized that they made some mistakes and made an effort to both take responsibility + prepare for the future/ensure it will go better next time 😀

the committee actually told you which level of recommendation it gave you? usually, committees don't tell students this information.

At my UG, the committee gives you the option to see what they wrote/recommend, but they also report this to AMCAS/your schools

You should def. bring this up in some way. Who cares if it didn't work out (I won't say failed)? This type of thing sets you apart in a good way. If you're into primary care, having some business sense can be useful (that's how I think of my former business).
