Impromptu Writing Assignments on Interview Day

I was wondering if anyone knew what subjects to study / think about for the extemporaneous writing assignments that are given on interview day? I'm trying my best to prepare for when that day comes, but I'm not sure what to focus on. Issues facing pharmacy? Personal struggles? Any ideas?

They asked me what my favorite book was. I wrote a 4 page rant on Plato's Republic. Got a 5/5.

Did they give you a score right away? They usually let you know if you get in or not without telling you your score.

have general knowledge of pharmacy issues, and know yourself. The majority of my essays had nothing to do w/ pharmacy. Review the major points of writing a good essay (thesis, transitions, etc.)

My essay was to state what three characteristics a pharmacist should have. I was flat out told that they were interested less in what you wrote as in HOW you wrote it.

Just be aware of the basic issues in the world and pharmacy and you should be fine.

I haven't written anything serious in a while aside from my personal statement. What are some good ways to get back in the groove of writing well?

Read something in your local newspaper and pretend you are writing an editorial about it. Write a review of a movie or TV show.

This may sound dumb, but if you want to practice thinking on your feet there are websites that have questions like they ask at pageants. Stuff like, If you were a reporter what news story would you like to have covered, or what you think is the biggest challenge effecting women...etc etc. You could just expand that and write a little essay about it.

But honestly, I dont think you have to worry about your essay, at least not enough to practice writing. Just read some papers and stay informed.
