Could really use some advice on how to move faster on these things, they're really dragging me down. I've run out of time on literally every shelf exam thus far (anywhere from 5-10 questions I have to bubble in at random), and ran out of time on *every* block during Step 1--even after giving myself a pep talk after every block and vowing to take my best stab at the questions and move on quickly. I'm realizing this is probably really affecting my grades; I'm sure it did some damage on my Step 1 score, and I've repeatedly gotten H-level evals while ultimately falling short on overall grade.

Maybe I'm a slow reader or look through everything too closely, but I think a large part of the problem is an inability to move on--I feel like I might explode when I know what's going on in a question stem but wind up with a good shot at getting the question wrong when I have to guess amongst weird/vague/similar answer choices.

Anyway, any tips would be appreciated. Only a few rotations left and I'm really hoping to turn things around.

Best advice on an exam: If you don't know it right away, skip it and move on. Learn to do this - that way you don't waste your time and forgo answering questions that are on the tip of your tongue. You may get that one, but is it worth missing out on the 10 others you could have answered?

* I do not know the format of shelf exams nor the repercussions for skipping questions.
