Gold Standard or Kaplan? Give reasoning.

neither. Chad's videos, Cliff's AP, DAT destroyer, Crack DAT PAT, Math destroyer.

I'd go as far as to say this is the bare minimum setup.

Yeah, I agree with the above. Kaplan is not necessary or sufficient for any studying.

Kaplan was fine for me for everything except for PAT. Aside from PAT their practice tests were consistently a little harder than what I saw on the exam.

I am however, in the minority in my praise for Kaplan. I got 27 bio, 20 chem, 20 ochem 21 reading and 19 qr i believe.

i agree with brainache's bare minimum setup, one book by itself isn't really the "best" for dat prep. Unless you're a super genius, you need a whole regiment of books and prep-programs to really cover everything.

DAT Destroyer for orgo chem and gen chem. Know the roadmaps in Destroyer for the orgo section and you'll be fine on the reactions. I used Cliffs AP, Kaplan, and Destroyer for bio, but I wish I had also used Campbells bio. For QR just review in Kaplan and for RC use topscore to practice.

I thought Kaplan was pretty good for bio. I made a TON of flash cards though. Chad's for chem. I wanted to try CDP but never got to and I didn't study RC so I can't recommend any materials for that. Chad's is also pretty good for QR but I found kaplan was good for practice problems.

chad's videos + mcat audio osmosis was basically all I needed. But I'm definitely an Audio/Visual learner. They give you the amount of information you really needed without going so far into detail that you just get overwhelmed/confused. In all honesty if you have good reasoning skills, a good background in science (from your years in undergrad), and a few weeks of sole dedication to studying (I became a hermit that lived on orange juice and energy drinks for a month during summer) you will do well with just these two. I also used kaplan for PAT and DAT Destroyer for Math only. With one month I got the scores I got. Good Luck!

be wary, while i used kaplan as my primary and found it very helpful, it had many mistakes. there are also major differences between kaplan blue book, kaplan mcat book, and kaplan book that comes with the purchased course (my friends gave me their sloppys)
