Hi there,

I am hoping someone out there can help me in regards to applying to a plastics residency as an independant candidate.

I am an OMFS resident early in my training being currently in med school. I really enjoy the reconstructive side of OMFS and am leaning towards doing a craniofacial fellowship but would feel inadequate without an approrpriate plastics training first to strenghten my knowledge.

my quesiton is what do plastic residency look at when evaluating independent candidates. do they look at USMLE Step I,II, III scores ( i have yet to take any as of yet), where you did your general surgery rotations, research?
Do they look at your med school performance such as your block didactics courses and rotations?

also, by the time i'm done my omfs training i would receive a 2 year GS certificate. would another year in GS be required before I am eligible to even apply for residency.

Finally, for those integrated plastic surgery programs, what is the drop out rate in those programs and would I be able to apply for those vacant position?

Thanks.
