I know there's many here. What do you guys think of this? Glenn Beck talks about the Indian healthcare system...

hmm
>.>
comparing a indian doctor to a 5$ fake purse to a american doctor being a 3000$ real purse is kinda wrong..
indian doctors are trained.. no clue how well but we import a lot of them to england and there..

but yah..
i can agree having a american system which isnt geared to being cost efficient and being more qualitative is ideal..

also the lady forgets that the average indian citizen makes 1$ a day/hour ...

but being glen beck.. i automatically disagree with anything coming out of his mouth..

i'm more interested in how many people actually give a crap about glenn beck and his absolutely idiotic, paraniod ramblings.

i think this was jon stewart's greatest performance since completely owning crossfire.
you gotta respect a guy who completely, literally shut down a tv show on cnn

i remember when I first saw that, i thought tucker carlson's stupid bowtie was going to burst into flames

I pray for Beck-Palin 2012. you should too.

I wasn't really offended until he made the completely unnecessary comment about the Ganga River. Way to make yourself look like a jerk. (which btw, I never really understood why it is pronounced gan-gees instead of gun-gah. I've heard the former in the US and the latter in India. Odd)

But apparently he might not have any idea that a physician he may have encountered might have actually been trained in India and then immigrated here.

it's sad that monkeys in america actually listen to this uneducated person

...the end was funny

this.

his voice puts me on the edge. :scared:

People actually listen to this guy?

He had the chance to explain the healthcare disparities between the two countries, but he completely blew it.

And the last part? Was that really necessary?.......

wowwwww does he not realize how many Indian doctors there are in America? what a douche....he should go jump into a pool filled w. razorblades, nobody would miss him I can promise you that.

He has some really good points. He just acted like douche when explaining it. Too bad he blew his opportunity to make a good point. Im more worried that people are as uninformed like the lady in the video. Basic economic principles. Also, an Indian hip replacement is not the same as one here. Nosocomial infections are ridiculous in India. Although i wonder if they have MRSA like we do.

I dont think he was purposefully trying insult indian doctors. I think he was just trying to elaborate the vast difference between the quality of healthcare in India and the US. Which there is. I cant beleive im defending Glenn Beck. Desperate times.......

He has no good points. He has only the most obvious and predictable things to say (of course, the lady's questions were begging for such answers, but that doesn't make what he was saying any more intelligent). He dismisses the real problem of rising health care costs in America. He dismisses the idea of going to another country to receive health care as contradictory to wanting to live in America. The last I heard, you can travel to another country and receive medical treatment there while still maintaining residence in the US. It is America after all, and I thought Americans had the freedom to temporarily leave the country? Or am I missing something?

he's definitely trying to insult indian doctors, he made a mockery joke out of sacred river...no good points sorry, you can't make points by being a sarcastic ******* who is a college dropout, pot smoker, and recovering alcoholic...no wonder he cant think critically.

india is probably the only "developing" country with a significant number of people immigrating to america to become doctors. and damn fine ones at that.

some of the best doctors I have ever worked with have been indian born and trained. he is basically just making fun of india for being poor.

I had a hard time watching the vid with a straight face, the guy seems like a complete nut and since I can't take that seriously...

Well, two things really bothered me about the video:

1. Basically, he assumes that American doctors are superior to Indian doctors. (His Harvard vs Gajara Raja or whatever argument). This is probably very inaccurate. There's a ton of Indian and Pakistani-trained doctors in hospitals I've worked in and they're very very good. At the same time, I've seen American MD's and DO's that have been so bad and incompetent I've wondered how on Earth they survived medical school. Both countries probably have their fair share of good and bad doctors, so that's really a ridiculously stupid argument. Alternatively, he could have argued that (in general) American hospitals have better facilities than Indian hospitals, but he ruined it by insulting Indian doctors and implying that American doctors are better (are the real Gucci besides the fake ones found in India). I've also heard that getting into a good medical school in India is extremely competitive and probably harder (considering the number of applicants) than getting into a medical school in the US.

2. He had no reason to make fun of the Ganges river. A quick google search will tell you that it's considered a very sacred river to the adherents of the world's third largest religion - Hinduism. He thought it was very funny - nah, just probably very insulting to the millions of Hindus who live in the US. I wonder what Bobby Jindal thinks of this?

I'm FOR health care reform, but I actually think he could have made a very good point. Comparing the price of healthcare in US vs. India is not accurate because obviously the countries have very different standards of living - and don't expect to be able to sue your doctor for millions of dollars for a botched surgery if you decide to do it in India instead of the US.

We can't just write off this guy. Let me remind you that there's MILLIONS of American viewers who believe everything this guy says; he has a ton of loyal fans AND he makes a ridiculous amount of money saying the things he says.

yeah, you can. the fact that he's a popular idiot doesn't take away from the fact that he's an idiot. it probably says more about the population of this country than anything else.

i can't wrap my mind around it, but a lot of uneducated people are drawn to those who promote hate and fear. i think once we understand that process fully, society as a whole will improve vastly.

like i said earlier, I hope every day he tries to run for president, preferably with sarah palin. he needs to leave his ivory tower at fox and step into the real world for a change.

The quality of healthcare is definitely different in India than it is in the US. However, after speaking with a doctor who was trained in India, I have come to understand that the quality of care isn't necessarily less, but more varied. So, there are public hospitals that aren't well funded and thus don't have the best resources to provide high quality healthcare. The doctors and staff are overwhelmed with patients (hundreds seen each day). However, there are private hospitals that are set up with the best technologies to cater to the rich (even better than those that may be available in some US hospitals). The doctors and staff are extremely competent. Getting procedures done at these hospitals is still less expensive than getting them done in the US, whereas the quality of healthcare is exactly the same, and possibly even better. Why is it cheaper? The doctor I spoke with said it is due to less overhead.

We tend to assume that if something costs less, that it must be of lower quality. However, that is not always the case.

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. He says that some of the money goes in the pockets of former Harvard students, I don't know about that, but it's hard to believe.

College dropout, cannibis, smoker, admitted alcoholic....yeah he's realllllll smart

No wonder they call the liberals elitists, I can't count how many people on this thread have called him uneducated.

I know there's many here. What do you guys think of this? Glenn Beck talks about the Indian healthcare system...

I can't believe the parallels he makes in that video. Buick and Rolls Royce? That doesn't even make sense! Is he implying that there are different levels of "luxury" in medical care? I don't know about you, but the medical care in India has certainly blossomed over the past decade or so. I went there this past summer, and let me tell you, the hospitals there are to be envied, both in their quality of care and hygiene, comfort level (actual food, manpower and world famous Indian hospitality) and the education level of the doctors. Unlike the United States, where practically anyone can become a doctor given enough finances, in India, becoming a doctor involves break-neck competition, the likes of which is never seen in other countries. For instance, the AIIMS, in New Delhi, one of the top centers of medical education, has a mere 50 seats, and hundreds of thousands of applicants EACH year. Imagine that. All those applicants are qualified, and put in a huge amount of study time to appear for the entrance exam, which by many standards is way harder than the MCAT. Apart from that, Indian healthcare is much cheaper, without a discount on the degree of care; you can get the same thing there (even better) for much less cost. You can attribute that to the power of the dollar, or to the inflation in India, but the fact of the matter is, Medical tourism, like outsourcing only exists, because comparable, competent talent is present, only at a much lower cost. Read Thomas Friedman, and his theory on "glocalization", and you'll understand what I mean. I, for one, am not saying that American doctors are bad or Indian doctors are all good; I am merely saying that discounting Indian doctors just because they are in India, (as Glenn Beck seems to indicate) and dont go to HARVARD is pure nonsense. Dont even get me started on the Ganges reference. It is clear that he made that remark only to inflame Indians further. These ultra conservatives fill me with despair and dread. 😡

two questions:
what made you assume that we're liberals?

besides his high school diploma (+ 40 seconds of research experience), why do you assume that he is educated?

That and they actually make people pay for the procedure instead of making the insured foot the bill for everyone that doesn't pay.

quite possibly true

It really disappoints me that, out of all the people that criticize Glenn Beck for bring an "alcoholic," etc., almost none of them have ever watched his show, if even for a few minutes. Sure, you get to see clips of him on the fake news stations (comedy central, msnbc), but these are largely taken out of context (yes, I am using the same "out of context" defense that Obama used so effectively during the campaign .)

Almost all attacks on Glenn Beck that you will see or hear anywhere are on how he's a "fatty fat fatso," "alcoholic," recovering or not, eats tons of M&Ms, is crazy, etc. You won't very often see anyone arguing against the points he makes; instead they focus on a few clips to which the liberal media draws attention, such as him crying. Glenn is on the air for a total of FOUR HOURS every day. Anyone on the air that often and that long will have a pretty juicy "best of" youtube playlist (see: Joe Biden).

Mr. Beck is not against the Obama administration or healthcare reform; he is pro-common-sense. He simply points out the sheer ridiculousness of events happening in Washington, and as it has been said, is MUCH more popular amongst the folks than you might think.

i don't argue against his "points" because the ones he makes are so mind numbing i don't even know where to start. yea it's real common sense to claim obama hates white people. but of course right afterwards he says he's not saying obama doesn't like white people. pfft.

for the record i have not touched his alcoholism or any of his personal history because i believe it's none of my business nor do i find it relevant to his lunacy.

Way to cherry-pick through these posts. There are several in this thread that attack his ridiculous ideas and his blatant offensiveness in this clip (as opposed to his alcoholism, which I hadn't even heard about). As far as his being "pro-common sense" I would have to completely disagree. I would say he is "pro-not thinking things through/being borderline racist". Besides, sometimes issues, such as the notoriously complex world of US health care, require more than 40 seconds of research to make conclusions.

Correct, obviously the world of US healthcare does require more than 40 seconds of research; no one is going to argue with you about that. But when the fate of the health care system is being decided behind closed doors by a bunch of senators from one party, instead of out in the open with a serious debate, is that any better...? I don't know, you tell me.

Also, the comment about Obama hating white people is exactly the kind of "best of" video I was talking about. Research the comment and the incident.

i have, and it's completely in context. i recall seeing that real-time on TV too, not a rerun on the daily show or something. i actually watch faux news (more than any other news source on tv ironically) just to see what comedy ensues. jon stewart's parody of glenn beck is spot on.

Ok, well then you realize that it was a conclusion that was drawn after looking at a terrible speech that the president had just made. He was analyzing a speech using what he already knew about the president's past. Whether you agree with the conclusion or not, thats not the point. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with the conclusion. More discrediting statements have been said by other individuals and have been passed over.

To the contrary, if you had bothered reading all the posts in this thread, you would have seen that quite a few people argued against the points he makes.

I don't know about you but he sure doesn't sound pro-common-sense when he insults other people's religions. I'm sure he would have never said something as insulting about Christianity, consider Fox News viewers demographics. Plus, did you see the kind-of comparisons he made? It doesn't sound common sense to me.

Instead of ranting on and on about the liberal media and how what he says is taken out of context... why don't you instead try to explain exactly what he was saying in the video and how you think he is pro-common-sense? What parts of this clip do you think was taken out of context? How is it common sense to suggest that American doctors are smarter because they go to Harvard (apparently he thinks the only way you can become a doctor in the US is if you go to Harvard) but Indian doctors go to Garajaraja or whatever? Do you think it's common sense that American doctors are smarter than Indian doctors? Please tell.

Look, I'm not arguing for what Glenn Beck said, nor do I agree with him on every point. He doesn't have all of the answers (surprise). I have no problem with people who will sit there and critically analyze the video that was posted (yeah I actually did read the thread.) Good for you.

What I originally said was that I was "disappointed," not at the people who are going to make a point, but at the people who are going to sit there and say that "well, since It's Glenn Beck, nothing he says can be taken seriously" or "he should go jump into a pool filled w. razorblades."

Don't worry. He doesn't encounter Indian-looking physicians.

Really? And how would most Indians afford to pay $16000 for hip replacement?

It is because the population of India is above 1 billion, and English is one of the official languages.

uh? no.

it was the same race baiting we have seen for a long time from the far right. no way to sugar coat it.

Really? And how would most Indians afford to pay $16000 for hip replacement?

um...do you think most indians get hip replacements? (the answer, i would venture to guess, is no.)

It is because the population of India is above 1 billion, and English is one of the official languages.

i think it's more than that. i think it's a cultural thing. indian immigrants (in my experience) are much more focused on education and becoming professionals than most others. chinese are a close second.
