Hello All
I just came from information session for IAU Medical school at Saint Lucia. They give us so much information that it seems to be too good to be true. Can anyone provide me with any REAL information on this school.

This is what they told us:

1) 17 K per year ( REAL CHEAP)
2) No MCAT !!!!
3) Only 2 years in Saint Lucia
4) 90% residency at Chicago Illinois
5) The Other 2 Year mostly work in US hospitals

Is this really TRUE ??

Thank you in advance for all your help.

Don't go to a Caribbean Medical School because it's going to be hard to get into a US Res Program. They are selling you dreams and are you sure you're not trolling. You want to take the MCAT because STEP 1 is nothing compared to the MCAT 😎

I am still a pre-med though and I wouldn't apply to Caribbean schools

no, it's not true. Likely it's closer to 10-40% of people end up into any US residency. Let's dissect that 90% figure. First, 20% of the class is weeded out in the first semester, then another 30% is weeded out by either failing the USMLE or not being allowed to sit in for it by the school. And then 90% of the remaining 50% match, for a grand total of a 45% match rate.

Where are these numbers coming from ? What is your source ?

They told us ( Last year when I attended the information session) they have 80% passing the two board exam and then from that 80%, 90% of them get residency placement in US. So this makes it 7.2 or 7 out of 10 people getting residency in US !!!!!

That is huge given that HOW easy it is to get in !!! However, I could not find any independent source to confirm these numbers and hence did not APPLY.

what they didn't tell you is that they screen who is allowed to take the exam (i.e. if you don't score above X% on the schools internal exam, you aren't even allowed to take the boards). They also didn't tell you they flunk out half of the people during the first two years.

So no, your chances of matching (i.e. number of people who enter day 1 versus number who match within 4 years) are not 7/10 (which is still low), but likely 4-5 out of 10. Of that, 90% of those will be at malignant FM/IM/Peds programs that no US student would want to go too...and even those will start to fill up with US grads in the next decade based on the future expansion of American schools.
