Encounter any interesting cases at your first clinical site visit?

I had a few that I thought were "interesting":

1. A priapism...his erection was clocked at over 10 hours.

2. A 550 lb man interested in lap band surgery because his orthopedic surgeon wouldn't operate on his knees until he lost some weight.

3. A fifty-something guy with CHF, Hep C, and cirrhosis. He couldn't stop talking about his new 30 year old girlfriend and how "aesthetically pleasing" her vagina was. His nipplles were tender...a side effect of one of his medications screwing with his testosterone levels...I believe the doc said he was essentially growing boobs. Got to listen to his irregularly irregular heartbeat...kinda cool. He left with a prescription for Viagra.

Saw a 20 year old kid who was hit by a train. Took his lower left leg clean off, dislocated the knee, crushed the left side of his chest. The ortho surgeon had to lobby like hell for a below the knee amputation (general surgery wanted an above the knee because they thought the knee was toast - it was completely dislocated with over 90 degree valgus rotation when he arrived with all his collaterals torn clean off). 2 months post op and the kid has 90% movement of his knee back, truly amazing. He'll be walking on a lower leg prosthesis in a week. What a story.
